We need to fill out a full roster. For better or worse, that’s always the case in fantasy baseball. When it comes to second base, it’s clear that this is one of the weaker positions when measured against the overall player pool. So nailing one of your second base sleepers can go a long way towards claiming a fantasy baseball championship.
The good news, though, is that for the most part, the draft day cost (or ADP – Average Draft Position) reflects that. However, there are three second basemen, being selected between 220 and 270, that I have my eye on. Considering that each of them could finish the season ranked about 50 spots higher, I’d consider them as sleepers.
With only three second basemen being taken within the first 100 picks, it’s not a high climb for many to finish the season with a positive return. Now, let’s take a look at some second baseman sleeper options ahead of the 2026 season.
2026 Second Base Sleepers
Otto Lopez, Miami Marlins
When we get to this point in the draft (after pick 200) and also into sleeper territory, we are looking for every piece of value we can find. In the case of Otto Lopez, he’s a second baseman playing shortstop, so that added versatility helps. Of course, it’s about more than that, though. We need production, and Lopez can come through there as well.
Last season, he hit .246 and scored 66 runs, but that’s burying the lead. Lopez batted in the middle of the order, and he should again this season, which puts him in RBI territory. The Marlins lineup should also be improved, which will be beneficial to Lopez. Last season, he showed the ability to drive in runs as he finished with 77 RBI.
As we look to fill out all five categories, it’s notable that Lopez finished with 15 home runs and 15 stolen bases. Lopez’s barrel rate rose to 7.1% last season. There was also a notable gap between his .368 SLG and .426 xSLG last season. That allows for some upside as it’s possible we see Lopez get to 20/20 in 2026. His .271 xBA also provides some optimism.
Jose Caballero, New York Yankees
If you want to talk about versatility, Jose Caballero is your guy. Depending on the settings and the depth of your league, there’s real value in that versatility. And in the case of Caballero, he’s also eligible at shortstop, third base, and outfield. To begin the season, Caballero will be starting at shortstop while Anthony Volpe recovers from surgery.
Caballero is guaranteed about a month’s worth of regular playing time, and that’s at a minimum. Yes, he only hit .236 last season and has minimal power, but that’s not what we’re after.
In 126 games, 370 plate appearances, Caballero had a 12.7% walk rate. Ultimately, that’s what we’re after as we need the infielder to reach first base so he can steal second and third. He did score 52 runs, but it’s the 49 stolen bases that we’re after. You’ll have to make up for the production elsewhere, but Caballero will score runs and could lead the league in stolen bases.
Lenyn Sosa, Chicago White Sox
If you look at Roster Resource, Lenyn Sosa technically doesn’t have a starting job heading into the season at the moment. For a rebuilding team like the Chicago White Sox, I’m not sure how that will be possible. I’d expect Sosa to be quite busy this season. That should especially be the case after a strong 2025 season.
Sosa saw his ISO increase from .105 to .170, and everything else followed. He finished with a .264 batting average with 22 home runs and 75 RBI. None of that production should have come as a surprise, as all of the underlying metrics backed it up. In fact, we saw career highs across the board from Sosa. He finished with a 10.4% barrel rate, a 43.8% hard hit rate, a 90.7 MPH exit velocity, and a 111.5 MPH max exit velocity.
