Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Thursday, May 30, 2026. In today’s edition, the Marlins might be without one of their best pitchers for quite some time, the Astros are possibly crossing a dangerous line with respect to the return of Jose Altuve, and the Tigers might get one of their veteran starters back sooner than first expected. You can read all of this and so much more in today’s MLB Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report
Eury Perez – SP Miami Marlins
Eury Pérez will undergo imaging on his hamstring.
He said it was a 10 on a 1-10 scale at first. Now at a 7. #Marlins
— Christina De Nicola (@CDeNicola13) May 27, 2026
Perez was dominating the Blue Jays yesterday until his hamstring started hurting. He was forced to leave the game early due to this injury and will undergo imaging to determine the severity. From the outset, this doesn’t sound very promising, given his description. It feels like he will miss some time on the Injured List.
Jose Altuve – 2B Houston Astros
Joe Espada intimated that the Astros are exploring the possibility of simulating some at-bats in West Palm Beach in lieu of a rehab assignment for Jose Altuve, who is healing at an "incredible" pace. Altuve ran the bases, took grounders and is swinging at 75-80% effort.
— Chandler Rome (@Chandler_Rome) May 27, 2026
The Astros really need to be careful here. Altuve is 36 years old, and the aged ones don’t always heal as quickly as the youth. In addition to this, oblique injuries are tricky in that they tend to recur if they become aggravated too soon. As such, he could suffer an even more intense injury here, causing extensive time off. That said, time will tell, and the Astros may change their minds.
Josh Hader – RP Houston Astros
Josh Hader will pitch today and tomorrow for Triple-A Sugar Land, which should be the final step before he returns to the active roster.
— Chandler Rome (@Chandler_Rome) May 27, 2026
Be prepared!
Teoscar Hernandez – OF Los Angeles Dodgers
Dave Roberts said Teoscar Hernández is going on the IL. Few weeks “at the minimum.” Will get an MRI tomorrow.
— Fabian Ardaya (@FabianArdaya) May 28, 2026
Hernandez left last night’s game early after running to first base and grabbing at his hamstring. The team has already determined that he will miss more time than the minimum, and that he will undergo an MRI today to determine the severity. Given their proclamation already without an official diagnosis, it feels safe to assume that it is something more than a minor ailment.
Giancarlo Stanton – OF New York Yankees
Giancarlo Stanton's most recent MRI on Tuesday showed "a lot of improvement" in his right calf, per Boone. Plan is to introduce outside running this week.
— Greg Joyce (@GJoyce9) May 27, 2026
This update is more promising than the one that explained Stanton wasn’t healing as well as he should have. We shall see how he holds up once he starts running, as this is your reminder that he does have quite the extensive injury history.
Toronto Blue Jays – Team Update
Addison Barger is going to start throwing "probably tomorrow," Schneider said.
Alejandro Kirk's goal is to start hitting off a machine this weekend and get into rehab games by the time the #BlueJays get back home (June 5)
— Mitch Bannon (@MitchBannon) May 27, 2026
Addison Barger is showing some progress here, and his throwing today will be a big step forward for him, since he’s missing time with an elbow injury. Should that go smoothly, chances are the team will allow him to move forward shortly afterward. As for Alejandro Kirk, he was placed on the 60-day Injured List yesterday, too, but the team doesn’t believe that will change his trajectory of returning mid-June.
Detroit Tigers – Team Update
Both Casey Mize and Kenley Jansen are dealing with right groin issues. Mize said he didn't think this one was as bad as the previous one that put him out. No further info on Jansen.
— Chris McCosky (@cmccosky) May 28, 2026
Mize returning to the Injured List would be a big blow to him and the Tigers, as you never want to see a recurring injury like this. Those are usually a sign that his activation may have been premature. As for Jansen, it’s hard to know much, as the team will get him checkedout today to see what they’re dealing with. It’s fair to assume that both pitchers could be placed on the Injured List given their situations, past and age.
Justin Verlander – SP Detroit Tigers
Justin Verlander threw 66 pitches in today’s live BP. He hit 95.3 mph in his fourth up. It seemed like an improvement from his previous session.
— Cody Stavenhagen (@CodyStavenhagen) May 27, 2026
For someone who has been at a standstill with respect to his recovery process, Verlander has really picked things up as of late. That likely signifies health, and as long as things aren’t rushed, he could be back soon enough. He’s at a good place with his pitch count and velocity. Chances are, he will need a rehab assignment, given he has just pitched 3.2 innings this season.
Jorge Polanco – 2B – New York Mets
Carlos Mendoza said today that Jorge Polanco’s bad days physically are less frequent now, but still, he’s “not going to be 100 percent.”
“As he went through the intensity, running the bases, sprinting, all of that, the next day it’s like, ‘Hey, he’s not getting any worse. (He)… https://t.co/HwA2KPsxyS
— Max Goodman (@MaxTGoodman) May 27, 2026
For all of the positivity surrounding the news of Polanco starting his rehab assignment and doing well in his first game played, the comments about him not being at 100% and having to manage this lingering pain are not great. He is not getting better without playing, and chances are that his Achilles injury could reappear or get worse with intense gameplay. How that is managed, we don’t know, but it was said that he might be the designated hitter for the Mets more often than not.
Wyatt Langford – OF Texas Rangers
Wyatt Langford (forearm) said that he is taking batting practice on the field today and is still on track to face a live arm Friday. #Rangers
— Jeff Wilson (@JeffWilsonTXR) May 27, 2026
The biggest news from this development is that Langford continues to feel good with every piece of recovery that he completes. He will be facing live BP tomorrow, which is a great sign that he is getting better.
