Week 2 – Fantasy Draft EPL Waiver Wire

The EPL waiver wire in Week 2 will have more solid options than you will have as the season moves forward. Fantrax managers learned a lot in week one, but just as many questions were raised too. As often happens in the EPL, not everything went to script, as newly promoted teams took away two wins and “top” teams struggled. It’s too early to make too much out of this, but managers should be using the waiver wire to grab players with promise.

Each week, there will be a review of the picks from the previous week to see how the suggestions are going.

It was a good first week of suggestions, as three of the four players notched assists. Ben White scored over 20 points with an assist and clean sheet, and he was the 5th highest-scoring defender of the week. He’s now rostered in 76% of the leagues. Mathias Jensen had an assist and 17 points in the Bees’ 3-0 win over Spurs. He’s still available in 70% of leagues. Georginio Rutter had an assist but not much else, as the Seagulls thrashed Aston Villa 4-0. Abdukodir Khusanov and most of Manchester City disappointed, but they scratched out a win.

The transfer window remains open, so keep your eye out for newly acquired players.

The next two weeks are crucial on the waiver wire.

Week 2 Fantasy Draft EPL Waiver Wire

Week 2 suggestions (rostered 50% or less) are listed in order from most to least rostered.

Normally, there would be more positional variety in the suggestions, but with attackers harder to come by as the season progresses, this week will feature attacking players. If you’re looking at defenders, there are some potential good choices from Hull and Leeds, who scored well last week.

Thierno Barry – Forward – 46% Rostered – Bournemouth vs Everton

Barry had an up-and-down season in his inaugural year in the EPL, but he’s had the start Everton fans could have hoped for. He scored a quality header and added an additional shot. He was generally active and played with confidence. There are high hopes for Barry this season, and Everton have been searching for a consistent goal scorer. The starting spot seems his to lose, and Fantrax managers could be grabbing a week in and week out starter here on a team with some potential. They travel to Bournemouth, who gave City all they could handle, but this pick on the EPL waiver wire is for the long term.

Anthony Elanga – Forward – 49% Rostered – Spurs vs Newcastle

Elanga opened his scoring ledger just five minutes into their season and game against Liverpool. It was a quick counter and a quality finish. His quickness and pace make him tough to defend, and if he can find a little more poise and touch around the goal, he’ll be a strong choice throughout the season. That’s a big if, though, as he’s been lacking a consistent final product. But the upside is big. Spurs started with a three-nil defeat, so there may be chances again for Elanga and Newcastle.

Emersonn – Forward – 25% Rostered – Manchester United vs Ipswich

It was a phenomenal start for newly promoted Ipswich and for Emerson, as they defeated Sunderland 2-1. Besides the goal, he also had two key passes and another shot on target. There’s some potential here, as he will be a focal point of attacks, and points came from more than just the goal. Ipswich travel to Man United who lost 2-0 for another promoted team, Hull, last weekend. The jury is still out on whether he can score and put up points weekly, but at this point in the season, he’s well worth a look on the EPL waiver wire.

Joshua King – Midfielder – 8% Rostered – Sunderland vs Fulham

King was fantastic in their tough 3-2 loss to Chelsea. He scored Fulham’s opening goal, and he was probably their best player on the day. He was aggressive in attack and played with directness and confidence. If he keeps that up he’s going to be a handful for teams defensively.  But besides the offensive stats, he added two tackles won and two clearances. There was a lot to like here and Fulham were in the game against Chelsea throughout.

Keep your eyes on the team news as transfers continue to materialize. Have fun. Good luck.
