Previously on Fantrax Does Football Manager…
Football may have stopped in the real world, but not here at Fantrax, we’re staying to giving you your football fix with a little bit of help from Football Manager 20. Yesterday our first series kicked off with a look at @TT_CAM’s league and the opening five games of the season, check it out here if you missed it. Now, let’s get going with Gameweeks 6-10!
Gameweek 6
Three draws in the first five gameweeks combined. Three draws in Gameweek 6. But at least they were entertaining – especially so the one between Burnsy and Only Horn, who played out a thrilling 3-3 game. A second week with Jonny Evans out injured, a second game in which Buy Nuts failed to win. Never has the Northern Irishman seemed so important, though when the only other defenders on your roster are Shaw, Maguire, and Lindelof, I guess this should be expected (by the way…this guy must be a United fan, right?). Wingback’s dream start to the season continued with a 3-0 hammering of Doing A Fulham. It wasn’t all good news though, as Saint-Max suffered an injury that could keep him out for up to five weeks. The only other player who can play up top at the club? Apparently Harry Wilson…who knew?
Gameweek 7
Xhaka did what Xhaka does, to the relief of the Only Horn manager. His sending off 20 minutes from time turned the tables on what looked to be the first win of the season for Best of the Rest. Harry Wilson did indeed play up top for Wingback, and perhaps not surprisingly, they failed to score; falling to a 2-0 defeat and losing their place at the top of the table. They were replaced by Buy Nuts, who had no problem with That Ain’t No Problem. Questions have to be asked now of Konnekshun, who continue to struggle despite a wealth of talent available (van Dijk, Chilwell, Firmino, Vardy, De Bruyne). The 6.37 average rating of Martin Dubravka so far is a far cry from his value as a goalkeeper on Fantrax. Elsewhere, Gareth Southgate must be rubbing his hands together with glee, as seven different English players scored this week; all these attacking options will set the country up nicely for Euro 2020…
Gameweek 8
The top two lose and we see a new name looking down on everyone else. Six Fois’ comfortable win this time coming with TAA shifted over to left back and John McGinn playing in the center – whatever works I guess! Aubameyang’s 7th (!) goal of the season was not enough to stop a Harry-Kane led Burnsy from winning at home, whilst it was honors even between Doing A Fulham and That Ain’t No Problem. And yes…you do read that correctly…Best of the Rest has finally won! Scamma is the unfortunate team that will have to hang their head in shame as they lost to a Martinelli double. (P.S. please can someone explain the Ramazani selection?!).
Gameweek 9
Reports at the Fantrax Fanzine in the build-up to Gameweek 9 suggested that Konnekshun were one loss away from sacking the manager, and perhaps that was the incentive needed to fire up the boys as they defeated Campos 3-2 away from home. You wait seven weeks for a Best of the Rest win, and now two come along at once. Burnsy the victims this time. The goals dried up for the first time this season, with Grealish scoring the solitary one as Scamma bounced back to beat Doing A Fulham, and the game between league leaders Six Fois and Only Horn ending goalless. That Ain’t No Problem continue to be the draw specialists, as they share the spoils for the fourth time this season, and Resume Filler climb to fourth with an impressive win away at Buy Nuts.
Gameweek 10
Saint-Max was back, but it wasn’t enough for Wingback who fell to another defeat. The club hasn’t won in four but remain 2nd in a very congested league table. Congested except for the team at the top that is. Another win for Six Fois, another clean sheet, and they sit four points clear. The team with no recognized center backs have conceded just 7 goals this season – 6 fewer than anyone else! Is this the future of football? Only Horn could only draw, but they are now five unbeaten and starting to look more like the team predicted to challenge for the title. Elsewhere, Grealish scored his 4th in his last four games as Scamma proved too strong for Buy Nuts, and a 93rd-minute winner from Saka sent the Burnsy-brigade into raptures as they move into 7th spot.
As It Stands On Fantrax Does Football Manager…
Six Fois sit top but just three points separate Wingback in 2nd from That Ain’t No Probem in 8th. Campos and Doing A Fulham will be looking over their shoulder as an in-form Best of the Rest hunt aim to give them the ultimate embarrassment of finishing lower than a team of rejects. Goals are flowing freely, but particularly so when Resume Filler and Only Horn are in action – the two clubs are averaging almost 3.5 goals per game; a great advertisement for the Fantrax Football Manager Championship if you ask me.
So that’s your lot for now. Come back tomorrow to see what happens in Gameweeks 11-15!
