MLB Injury Report – Deflated Dodgers Damaged Duo

Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Tuesday, April 29. In today’s edition, The Dodgers could be in trouble in the near future with both Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell on the Injured List. Also, the Orioles made a flurry of moves yesterday to some very fantasy-relevant players. Finally, a plan is in place for Ivan Herrera to return, making this an important week for him. All of this and so much more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report

Tyler Glasnow – SP Los Angeles Dodgers

Glasnow found his way to the Injured List on Monday, after a day of speculation as to the root of his injuries. The team made the call, as it was his shoulder that was giving him problems, not overall body soreness, which he was experiencing. Just a reminder that he changed his delivery in the offseason in an effort to help him stay on the mound more. He felt that by alternating how he pitches, it would save his elbow from further injury. It would appear that as a result of this mechanical change, he has hurt his shoulder and his body, thus landing on the Injured List for his shoulder. There are many red flags here, one of which is a possible elbow issue that went unresolved last offseason. He feels like a ticking time bomb ready to explode at any moment. He is someone who should be avoided at all costs, despite the immense upside.

Blake Snell – SP Los Angeles Dodgers

While Snell getting an injection isn’t exactly a news-breaking update, it’s worth monitoring to see how his body responds to this in the coming days. If he does not get better, then the team may have to take more drastic measures. For now, consider this a logical next step.

Baltimore Orioles – Team Update

This is a big update with a lot of moving pieces. From a fantasy perspective, the Jordan Westburg injury is a bit of a downer, given how he had just started to bounce back from a slump. It’s worth noting that in his short time with the Orioles, he has suffered a handful of injuries already, which is something to consider when evaluating risk vs talent. As for Grayson Rodriguez, his move to the 60-day Injured List is somewhat eye-opening despite not being surprising. He was originally supposed to start throwing soon, but this move gives the team another option to use in their lineup, while also giving their prized possession a thorough chance to hopefully get healthy. All that being said, he is in a similar boat to the aforementioned Glasnow with an altered delivery and multiple injuries. Finally, Colton Cowser’s timeline hasn’t changed, nor has he suffered a setback. This is more of a procedural move to open a roster spot.

Ezequiel Tovar – SS Colorado Rockies

Tovar is unfortunately nowhere nearer to a return than where he was when he was originally placed on the Injured List. He still can’t progress to smoothly playing in the field, which is quite discouraging because he is the team’s best offensive player with a bright future. His absence was originally believed to be short, but now we may be looking at a mid-Ma return with the possibility of something longer if a rehab assignment is warranted.

Kris Bryant – 1B Colorado Rockies

Fingers crossed that Bryant is healing at a rate that will allow him to return to the Rockies in a healthy and physical able manner. It feels ominous, but there is a chance that he never plays again because of his recent diagnosis of lumbar degenerative disc disease.

Ivan Herrera – C St. Louis Cardinals

The plan for Herrera has been set out, and his progress will be something to monitor. Today will be the first step for him as he will test out his ailing knee with some cutting drills and base-running work. Ifall goes well, a rehab assignment will start later this week. The knee is a crucial part of the body for a catcher, as they are crouched on their knees for a large portion of the game. In addition to that, their reaction time is the key to the team’s success. As such, he may require a rehab that is a but longer than normal, just to fully test out the stability and flexibility of his knee.

Cincinnati Reds – Team Update

From the sounds of it, Tyler Stephenson still has a few more days before the idea of even returning to the Reds takes shape. As it stands, he is 3-for-17 with one home run thus far, so this idea of waiting could be to allow him to get his timing back at the plate. As for Wade Miley, he had his UCL repaired last June, and this groin injury is a bit of a downer. He is still aiming to return in the second half of the season. Finally, Christian Encarnacion-Strand took the first step in his progression after taking an epidural recently. There is no timetable for his return, as he has battled countless injuries over his brief career, and they have lasted a long time.

Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros

There wasn’t much information on this potential injury after the game, but the way Alvare walked off under his own accord could mean that this was a precautionary move, especially given the score of the game. The team will undoubtedly have updates today, but here’s hoping this isn’t an issue with his knee.
