The Los Angeles Angels finished in fifth place in their division in their first season without Shohei Ohtani. Still, there were some positives to take away from the season. Zach Neto emerged as a very good young infielder, Nolan Schanuel showed flashes, and Logan O’Hoppe hit 20 home runs. The young and emerging core is a reason for excitement moving forward. They’ve added veterans such as Jorge Soler, Yusei Kikuchi, and Kyle Hendricks this offseason to help them compete more in 2025. Though they will likely be starting the year without Neto. With all of the youth in the Angels lineup already, there will be more chances to add to the young core in 2025. Each of the Angels’ top four prospects has a chance to be contributors during the 2025 season, and there are others on the list as well.
Los Angeles is very aggressive with prospects assignments, so for dynasty baseball managers this should be an intriguing organization. The players may contribute sooner than expected. On the flip side, that makes this farm system somewhat top-heavy and risky beyond the top-rated prospects.
Top 20 Los Angeles Angels Prospects for Dynasty Leagues
1. 2B Christian Moore, Age: 22
The Angels have loved moving their first-round picks along very quickly recently. 2022 first-rounder Zach Neto debuted by the end of his first full season, and the following year’s first-round selection, Nolan Schanuel, debuted in his draft year. It’s very possible Christian Moore was likely on that same track prior to a meniscus injury. Los Angeles assigned him to Double-A after just two games in Single-A following the draft. Altogether, he hit .347 with six home runs in 25 games in his professional debut. It would not be surprising to see Moore in the mix for the Angels lineup at some point in 2025. He has tremendous power, but his strikeouts may be a deterrent. Double-A pitchers struck him out 29.6 percent of the time in his 90-AB sample last season. If he’s going to make an impact at the MLB level this year, he will need to make sure pitchers can’t expose his swing and miss. Still, he represents significant power upside from the second base position.

2. RHP Caden Dana, Age: 21
After being a 2022 11th-round pick out of high school, Caden Dana hustled his way through the organization and debuted for the Angels with a 10.1-inning stint as a 20-year-old. He struck out eight batters and walked seven. Prior to that, he threw 135.2 innings in Double-A where he posted a 2.52 ERA with a 27.4 percent strikeout rate and a 7.3 percent walk rate. Dana should have an opportunity to claim a rotation spot out of Spring Training in 2025. He can top out around 96 MPH with his fastball and uses a slider well. There are a lot of aspects that make Dana a future steady rotation arm, but he still has more room to develop to get there. That means he could struggle early next season or even the whole year. He’s a player who should be worth holding on to while he figures it out.

3. RHP George Klassen, Age: 22
A sixth-round selection in 2023, George Klassen burst onto the scene for the Phillies organization when he debuted in 2024. He pitched well enough to catch the eye of the Angels, who received Klassen and Sam Aldegeri in return from Carlos Estévez. Klassen has a high-end, upper-90s fastball that plays well off of a pair of breaking balls, which helped him to post a combined 35.2 percent strikeout rate last season. There is some reliever risk because of his ability to command the ball, but with potentially three above-average offerings he should be able to take on a high-leverage role if it comes to that. Because Klassen had a short 28.2-inning stint in Double-A, the Angels will likely give him an opportunity to earn a rotation spot early next season. With his stuff, if he comes out throwing strikes with consistency, the sky might be the limit.

4. LHP Sam Aldegheri, Age: 23
The other player in the Carlos Estévez trade was Sam Aldegheri, who debuted with the Angels after 27 innings in Double-A between the Phillies and Angels. He had a 4.85 ERA while striking out 10 batters and walking 10 batters in 13 innings. The southpaw had thrown 95.1 innings in the minors with a 3.59 ERA and 12.65 K/9 prior to his call-up to Los Angeles. Just like Dana and Klassen, Aldegheri should be in competition for a rotation spot out of Spring Training. He does everything pretty well on the mound and is a pretty well-rounded pitcher. He can touch 95 MPH with his fastball and has a trio of reliable offspeed pitches. Whereas Klassen represents a lofty ceiling, Aldegheri represents what looks like a pretty safe floor for success at the big league level.
My goodness. Samuel Aldegheri with a nasty knee buckler🤮🤮🤮#Angels pic.twitter.com/yojC7jgjM3

5. OF Nelson Rada, Age: 19
For dynasty baseball managers who value age-to-level success, Nelson Rada has been a name to follow. The Venezuelan-born outfielder was part of the Angels 2022 International Free Agent class. He posted a 148 wRC+ as a 16-year-old in the DSL in 2022. The following year he was worth a 113 wRC+ in Single-A. As an 18-year-old in 2024, he was given an aggressive Double-A assignment, where he slashed .234/.331/.269 with 35 stolen bases. He walked over 11 percent of the time and didn’t strike out a ton either. Still, Rada’s lack of power projection means he will have to remain a speed threat in order to be a significant fantasy baseball contributor. Given the fact that he didn’t look overwhelmed last year and how aggressive the Angels are with prospects, his top-of-the-order skillset could be on display in Los Angeles at some point in 2025, if not early in 2026.

6. RHP Chris Cortez, Age: 22
Former Texas A&M Aggie Chris Cortez was taken by Los Angeles 45th overall this season. He is set to debut next season and will have a wide range of potential outcomes once he does. Still, it’s hard not to be intrigued by a power sinker that can touch triple digits, as well as a hard slider that projects as a plus offering. His ability to throw strikes will dictate a lot. While he can generate whiffs, he may not be able to get professional hitters to chase as much. If he does, though, he has the stuff to be a legitimate fantasy pitching option, whether that be rotation or bullpen.

7. SS Joswa Lugo, Age: 18
During the 2024 IFA period, the Angels spent $2.3 million to secure the services of Joswa Lugo, brother of former Tiger Dawel Lugo. The younger Lugo produces some exciting power from his 6-foot-3 frame, which will be his carrying tool. He debuted in the DSL last season, slashing .301/.370/.466 with five home runs and 18 stolen bases. There’s a solid chance he will make the jump straight to Single-A at the outset of the 2025 season.

8. C Dario Laverde, Age: 20
Dario Laverde didn’t receive a big bonus during the 2022 IFA period, but he’s since proven to be a legitimate prospect for the Angels. He got 246 plate appearances in Single-A last season where he slashed .277/.366/.390 with a pair of home runs. While he probably won’t grow into a ton of power, there is still some projection left to add some pop. If he continues to hit for average and add some power he should be able to grow into a starting role for the Angels, and in turn be a solid fantasy catcher as well. He most likely sees Double-A at some point in 2025, but he may start the year in High-A.

9. RHP Ryan Johnson, Age: 22
On a lot of real-life lists, Ryan Johnson should rank highly due to his triple-digit fastball and plus slider. However, his high-effort delivery probably moves him to the bullpen. If he remains a starter, then ranking him ninth will be far too low. The combination of the effort in his delivery, his low arm slot, and the fact that he relies on his slider as much or more than his fastball all seem to be the perfect storm for a future reliever. If that is the case, he has the skills to be a quick-moving, impact late-inning reliever.
With the 74th overall pick, the Los Angeles Angels selected RHP Ryan Johnson. Unique, up-tempo delivery. Huge arm; FB has flirted w/triple digits, but he needs to optimize its shape. Advanced feel for plus sweeper. 51% whiff. Cutter will flash. Strikes! pic.twitter.com/IJPnWNOszU

10. OF Matthew Lugo, Age: 23
The Angels acquired Matthew Lugo from the Red Sox at the Trade Deadline and added him to their 40-man roster this offseason. He split time pretty evenly between Double-A and Triple-A last season where he slashed .287/.376/.578 with 17 home runs and 16 stolen bases. In the past, he was an infielder, but in 2024 the Red Sox and Angels exclusively used him in the outfield, meaning his infield eligibility is a thing of the past, for now. There’s not any obvious fit for him in the Angels lineup out of the gate, but he should provide some depth early on and should get his chance to prove himself at the big league level at some point next season.
The #Angels 23-year old OF prospect Matthew Lugo hit 17 HR's, 21 doubles & stole 16 bases with a .954 OPS in just 79 games in the minors this past season. He's just 23-years old. pic.twitter.com/qkztdbyiPo

11. RHP Barrett Kent, Age: 20
This farm system has plenty of stuff-over-command pitchers, and Barrett Kent is another player who fits that mold. The Angels made him their sixth-round selection in 2023, where he struck out 10 batters across 8.2 shutout innings. Kent was assigned to Single-A in 2024, where he had a 9.96 K/9, 4.86 BB/9, and 6.21 ERA in 113 innings as a 19-year-old. The walks and ERA numbers are high, but so are the strikeouts. His fastball can get into the upper 90s with a good slider and changeup combination that can generate whiffs. He’ll take the next step to High-A in 2025 where he will look to show improved command. The ingredients to be a starter a present if he can be in the strike zone more consistently.

12. RHP Ryan Costeiu, Age: 23
Following some electric performances in the lower full-season levels in 2021 and 2022, Ryan Costeiu was outplaying his 7th-round selection in 2021. That momentum halted, however, after needing Tommy John surgery that caused him to miss all of 2023. Costeiu returned last season to throw 73 innings with a 2.84 ERA and 9.69 K/9 at the High-A level. He did have an 11.8 percent walk rate, but all in all, it was a good season returning from injury. If he can perform in Double-A, the Angels may push him along quickly. There is still some reliever risk if the command doesn’t return.

13. RHP Trey Gregory-Alford, Age: 18
Even though Trey Gregory-Alford was selected in the 11th round, his $1,957,500 signing bonus was the second-highest total they doled out, trailing only first-round pick Christian Moore. Gregory-Alford can already touch the upper-90’s from a 6-foot-5 starters frame. He also has a projectible slider. Prep pitchers represent the riskiest faction of FYPD selections for dynasty baseball managers, but Gregory-Alford has some very intriguing upside as a starting pitcher. He is set to debut professionally in 2025.

14. SS Denzer Guzman, Age: 20
Denzer Guzman has a glove-first profile that makes him a really good prospect for the Angels. For fantasy baseball managers, his offensive profile doesn’t lend itself to the highest ceiling. In 2024 he hit .206 with six home runs and seven steals in Double-A. The hope is that he can tap into some more power down the line. Guzman will be 21 years old for all of the 2025 season, and he may be able to reach Triple-A at some point. His glove gives him a solid floor to have the opportunity to prove himself as a hitter long-term.

15. C Juan Flores, Age: 18
During the 2023 IFA period, the Angels gave Juan Flores a $280,000 signing bonus. He is another glove-first prospect who should get plenty of leash to prove his bat can play. Last season he split time between Single-A and High-A, slashing .254/.312/.372 with five home runs and four stolen bases. Should he tap into some more power, he becomes a very interesting fantasy prospect because he has the defensive ability to remain at catcher long-term.

16. RHP Camden Minacci, Age: 23
Unlike the other pitchers who might end up as relievers earlier in this list, Camden Minacci already is a relief pitcher. He made 45 relief appearances last season, reaching as high as Double-A, with a 3.31 ERA and 31.3 percent walk rate. He has two pitches; an upper-90’s fastball and a plus slider. He might wind up in the Angels bullpen at some point in 2025, and projects as a reliever capable of handling high-leverage situations. His value is higher in saves/holds leagues.
#Angels prospect Camden Minacci continues to impress for AA Rocket City.

17. SS Felix Morrobel, Age: 19
The highest-rated prospect the Angels signed at the time the IFA period took place in 2023 was Felix Morrobel. He played in the Complex in 2024, where he hit .308 with five stolen bases while walking as much as he struck out. Plate discipline numbers in the Complex aren’t totally reliable, but still, it’s worth noting he made plenty of contact. Morrobel profiles as a contact-oriented infielder that will be able to hit for average. He may grow into some power, but it won’t be a huge part of his game. In 2025, Morrobel will be 19 years old for the whole year in full-season ball.

18. SS Capri Ortiz, Age: 19
Another member of the Angels 2022 IFA class, Capri Ortiz has some of the best speed in all of the minor leagues. At 19-years-old he hit .265 with 22 stolen bases, and he added four home runs. Power isn’t likely to be a big part of his contribution, but he does have contact skills and speed. He also walked just over 10 percent of the time in Single-A. Ortiz will turn 20 in April and will likely begin the 2025 season in High-A, where he’ll look to cut down on his 27.5 percent strikeout rate from the year before.
Capri Ortiz was a pop-up prospect last summer as a twitchy athlete with 70 speed while learning to switch hit — still a project on both sides but steadily growing, after cold start in April he's slashing .288/.369/.398 since May 1 (93 gms, 372 PA) pic.twitter.com/pK52VoDq1z
— Taylor Blake Ward (@TaylorBlakeWard) September 5, 2024
19. OF Anthony Scull, Age: 20
At 20-years-old in Single-A in 2024, Anthony Scull slashed .263/.345/.378 with seven home runs and 24 stolen bases. That included striking out less than 20 percent of the time. He showed some interesting upside where he could grow into a player that can reach double-digit home runs and steals. Scull is still pretty raw in terms of his talent, so as he refines his skills he has the tools to be a name that garners some more attention in the future.
I’m a big fan of what what I have seen from #RepTheHalo outfield prospect Anthony Scull, good frame, good mover, i think he’ll hit for some pop as well pic.twitter.com/8hPH99q7mk
— Rhys (@RhysBWhite) April 6, 2024
20. OF Hayden Alvarez, Age: 17
Hayden Alvarez received the second-highest bonus from the Angels of anyone in the 2024 IFA class, with Joswa Lugo signing for the highest amount. Alvarez stood out in his DSL debut last season, hitting .250 with a home run and 32 stolen bases. His 6-foot-3 frame is something to dream on, as he could add some power as well as contact skills and some speed. It’s a long shot, but Alvarez has the potential to be a multi-category contributor. He should debut stateside next season where he’ll be 18 for the entirety of the season.
Joswa Lugo will get most of the attention for incoming Angels int'l signees, and rightfully so, but Hayden Alvarez is next in line in terms of status/bonus on Angels front: tall/athletic OFer, consistent hard contact, may outgrow CF but has the skillset pic.twitter.com/ev5Vbz6EPw
