2026 Dynasty Baseball Prospects: Daily Write-Up Series #76 Ryan Waldschmidt

We’re 45 days from Opening Day, and the countdown continues with a bat-first outfielder climbing Arizona’s system. Checking in at #76 is Ryan Waldschmidt, a left fielder whose offensive production has carried him to Double-A. Waldschmidt’s profile leans heavily on his ability to get on base and impact the ball, making him a strong fit for fantasy formats that value OBP. If the power continues to translate, his dynasty stock holds steady appeal.

Daily Baseball Write-Up Series #76 Ryan Waldschmidt

Arizona’s system keeps churning out athletes who get on base, run, and pepper line drives, and Ryan Waldschmidt is checking every one of those boxes. He spent 2025 holding serve against Double-A arms and then some, pairing mature swing decisions with a balanced batted-ball mix that screams “big-league table-setter.” It’s not the flashiest profile in the pool, but it’s the kind that tends to age well and rack up fantasy value across formats.

What jumps first is the foundation: a .419 OBP with nearly one walk for every strikeout (96 BB, 106 K) and a single-digit swinging-strike rate at Double-A (9.1%). That’s a rare combo of patience and contact for a 22-year-old. Waldschmidt isn’t cheating for pull-side juice, either. His spray profile is healthy, 42.8% pull, 25.6% center, 31.6% oppo, and the batted-ball shape is exactly what you want from an OBP/speed threat: 36.8% groundballs, 25.3% line drives, 37.9% fly balls. The result is a .289/.419/.892 line with a 143 wRC+, meaning he was 43% better than the average Double-A bat while shouldering a full season’s workload. That’s impact by approach as much as it is by raw tools.

The power is more steady than loud right now, and that’s okay. An ISO of .184 with 18 homers is solid support for the approach. He creates damage via angle and timing rather than brute force, and the all-fields contact lets extra-base power show up even when he isn’t selling out for it (27 doubles, 4 triples). Without public top-of-the-scale hard-hit data to lean on, I’m not projecting a middle-of-the-order thumper, but we don’t need that here. His swing decisions travel, and the bat path stays in the zone long enough to punish mistakes and live in hitter’s counts. If there’s a nit to pick, it’s that a 25% line-drive rate can normalize year to year, so the batting average could ebb a bit as he advances. The on-base skill, though, feels sticky.

Then there’s the speed. Waldschmidt stole 29 bases on volume alone, fueled by the high OBP and plenty of green lights. He’s a legitimate plus runner underway with the instincts to pressure batteries. As he moves to the PCL (hello, Reno), the run production could spike with even more traffic on the bases, though you’ll want to mentally haircut any surface-level stat inflation there. The core skills, swing decisions, contact quality, and athleticism are what scale, and those look legitimate. With Arizona’s track record of giving its young bats runway, the pathway is clear if he keeps this up.

Fantasy Outlook

Waldschmidt profiles as a high-floor dynasty asset who plays up in OBP and Points formats. Think top-of-the-order catalyst: strong OBP, 20-steal speed, and enough pop to push 15–20 homers at peak without torpedoing batting average. In standard roto (AVG), bake in some batting-average volatility as the line-drive rate normalizes, but the category blend still plays, runs, steals, and chip-in power are a winning mix. The lack of thunderous raw power caps the ceiling a touch, and elite pro batteries may trim some of the stolen-base totals early, but the plate skills give him multiple paths to value. He’s hovering around the back half of Top 100 lists now; another month or two of this at Double-A and a smooth AAA transition could push his ETA forward from 2027. Buy aggressively in OBP and Points, and target as a rising mid-tier outfield piece in deeper roto dynasties.
