Happy 4th of July! Here are the two-start pitchers for Week 14 (7/4-7/10) in fantasy baseball. As always, make sure to double-check the probable starting pitchers grid here at Fangraphs before you set your lineup. Pitching rotations are constantly changing. Let’s take a look at the two-start pitchers for Week 14!
Must-Start: These pitchers should be started regardless of match-up. They are a must-start in all leagues until further notice.
Should-Start: These pitchers should start in most leagues. However, these pitchers are not elite and are more subject to variance in performance.
Questionable: Only start these pitchers if you are in a very deep roto league, deep points league, desperate for counting stats, or feeling lucky.
Sit: Do not start these pitchers.
Week 14 Two-Start Pitchers
Must Start
| Pitcher | ERA | Start 1 | Start 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alek Manoah | 2.09 | @ OAK | @ SEA |
| Carlos Rodon | 2.62 | @ ARI | @ SD |
| Julio Urias | 2.64 | COL | CHC |
| Justin Verlander | 2.03 | KC | @OAK |
| Kyle Wright | 3.03 | STL | WAS |
| Luis Garcia | 3.54 | KC | @OAK |
| Max Scherzer | 2.54 | @ CIN | MIA |
| Sandy Alcantara | 1.95 | LAA | @ NYM |
Max Scherzer makes his triumphant return this week after being out since May 18. Scherzer is 5-1 with a 2.84 ERA, 2.95 SIERA, 0.95 WHIP, and 59 strikeouts in 49.2 innings. Scherzer will travel to Cincinnati to take on the Reds (87 wRC+ vs righties) and then he has a home start against the Miami Marlins (109 wRC+). Welcome back, Max! Baseball is better with you on the mound.
Should Start
| Pitcher | ERA | Start 1 | Start 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cal Quantrill | 3.72 | @ DET | @ KC |
| Jameson Taillon | 3.32 | @ PIT | @ BOS |
| Michael Kopech | 2.78 | MIN | DET |
| Nick Pivetta | 3.23 | TBR | NYY |
| Taijuan Walker | 2.72 | @ CIN | MIA |
Michael Kopech boasts a 2.78 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 61 punchouts over 68 innings so far this season. Hitters have only a .216 xBA against him which is in the 83rd percentile league-wide. He will have two home starts next week. One against the hard-hitting Minnesota Twins (114 wRC+) and the other, against the abysmal Detroit Tigers (68 wRC+). His expected stats and his 4.58 SIERA suggest regression is coming but if he can make it past the Twins relatively unscathed, he should have a great week.
Questionable
| Pitcher | ERA | Start 1 | Start 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alex Wood | 5.03 | @ ARI | @ SD |
| Eric Lauer | 4.02 | CHC | PIT |
| Hunter Greene | 5.72 | NYM | TBR |
| Ian Anderson | 5.31 | STL | WAS |
| Ranger Suarez | 4.33 | WAS | @ STL |
| Tarik Skubal | 3.75 | CLE | @ CWS |
| Zack Greinke | 4.38 | @ HOU | CLE |
Ian Anderson is a risky start this week. Last time out against the Philadelphia Phillies, Anderson gave up seven earned runs in just two innings. On the season, Anderson has a 5.31 ERA with a 1.52 WHIP. The 24-year-old is still doing a good job limiting hard contact but his 19.6 K% is a career-low, while his 11.0 BB% is a career-high. Next week he faces two middling opponents in the St. Louis Cardinals (104 wRC+) and the Washington Nationals (98 wRC+). Unless you are in a 15-team league or deeper, it is best to sit Anderson until further notice.
Hunter Greene has some of the nastiest stuff in baseball and his 28.9 K% backs that up. However, he continues to struggle with his command, 9.9 BB%, and over the last 14 innings, he has given up 13 earned runs. I still believe in his skillset long-term but for now, he is better suited for points leagues. Next week he takes on the New York Mets (112 wRC+) and the Tampa Bay Rays (92 wRC+).
