Here is the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Here you will find information on two major Yankees players with some unknown test results. Gerrit Cole still awaits news on the MRI on his injured elbow, while Aaron Judge awaits the news on his ailing abs.
Additionally, there is information on two big-name players for the Blue Jays, both of whom are hopefully just facing minor bumps in the road. Kevin Gausman appears to be on the right road for recovery while Valdimir Guerrero Jr. is off getting precautionary tests done on a knee contusion. All of this and much more is in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.
Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
Josh Lowe – OF Tampa Bay Rays
#Rays RF Josh Lowe said he is feeling great, is "pretty much full go" after testing his hip running over the weekend and is targeting a return to game action Sunday or Monday. Very confident of being ready for March 28 season opener.
— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) March 12, 2024
There was a report from the previous day that stated Lowe was nowhere near a return, but this seemingly refutes those claims. It looks as if he will be ready to get into Spring Training action this weekend and be ready on time for the new season. This is great news and fantasy owners should feel confident about him building on last year’s success if he can remain healthy.
Kenley Jansen – RP Boston Red Sox
Kenley's live BP session appeared to go well. He gave a thumbs up and a "yes, sir" when asked how it went. He is expected to pitch in his first game on Friday.
— Ian Browne (@IanMBrowne) March 12, 2024
Jansen has been slowed up by a lat injury that has delayed his debut. It’s looking more and more like he has a chance to be ready for Opening Day and to be a contributor for saves in fantasy.
Yuki Matsui – RP San Diego Padres
This is great news, as Matsui looks poised and ready to return to the Padres’ bullpen. As noted, this is perfect timing for him to be ready for the series in South Korea.
Gerrit Cole – SP New York Yankees
Boone said no update on the Cole MRI. Will undergo more tests today. But also acknowledged the obvious: regardless of the results, because of where Cole is in his buildup he likely won’t be ready for te opener & the org has discussed who that would be. The guess here is Stroman
— Erik Boland (@eboland11) March 12, 2024
This statement was made about Cole before the results of his MRI were released. There is no timetable for when we will know the diagnosis of the elbow, but the fact remains that there is an ominous tone to how things may develop. The team has already stated that they will be looking at multiple opinions on the matter. Chances are that we won’t know the results of any tests for another day or two as the team will be working on either a contingency plan or a recovery process for their best pitcher.
Aaron Judge – OF New York Yankees
Aaron Judge says he underwent an MRI on his abs yesterday. He said that he will not swing a bat again until later in the week. Said “there’s no real need to push it,” and his goal is to play Opening Day.
— Bryan Hoch ⚾️ (@BryanHoch) March 12, 2024
Judge allegedly injured himself on a swing and a miss in a game over the weekend. The team has yet to acknowledge any severity of the situation here, but a troublesome injury history doesn’t allow this situation to be ignored. While chances are that he will be okay, there is a possibility that he will miss some time this spring to ensure that he gets himself right. Stay tuned as we should know the results of this before Cole.
Taj Bradley – SP Tampa Bay Rays
#Rays Bradley said MRI showed a pec strain, and his return to throwing will be determined on a day to day basis. Said he was relieved it wasn’t an arm or shoulder issue.
— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) March 13, 2024
Bradley acknowledged that he felt some tightness in his pectoral muscle, and the team immediately went in for an MRI. It turns out that it was a strain in his pec and he will need some time from which to recover. As stated, his return will be based on how he feels. While Opening Day hasn’t yet been ruled out, it is certainly in jeopardy.
Kevin Gausman – SP Toronto Blue Jays
Pete Walker joined Sportsnet’s #BlueJays broadcast and updated on Kevin Gausman (shoulder fatigue):
“He had a great side session today.. he’s a little bit behind.. If he’s not there in the beginning (season), he’ll be there soon after.”
— Hazel Mae (@thehazelmae) March 12, 2024
Gausman continues to work on getting himself ready for Opening Day after a short setback with a shoulder injury. He appears set to progress to live batting, but we won’t know the details until the team announces it. It’s important to remember that they have not eliminated the possibility of him missing some time, so keep that in mind.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. – 1B Toronto Blue Jays
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (left knee contusion) will go through a full workout today at the Blue Jays player development complex.
Guerrero hasn't been sent for imaging and manager John Schneider says there's "nothing new with him — just being cautious right now."
— Arden Zwelling (@ArdenZwelling) March 12, 2024
The team is being cautious with their star slugger. Consider this a DTD situation until we hear otherwise.
Edward Cabrera – SP Miami Marlins
Nothing overly serious for Cabrera via MRI – but missed a month with a similar injury designation during the 2023 season. https://t.co/fFlw0pedPr
— Craig Mish (@CraigMish) March 12, 2024
While the team has revealed that Cabrera is listed as DTD, it’s important to note that he missed a significant amount of time for this very ailment last season. There is no indication that this is what will happen now, but fantasy owners need to be cognizant of that fact.
Corey Seager – SS Texas Rangers, Josh Jung – 3B Texas Rangers

— Jared Sandler (@JaredSandler) March 12, 2024
Both Texas infielders received significant news on their progress on Monday. It was revealed that Seager was cleared for light swings, which was the first time he’d been able to do so at all since the sports hernia surgery months ago. Meanwhile, Jung is targeting a return to Spring Training action on March 25 as for when he will return to action. The team has not yet ruled out if he will be ready for Opening Day, despite that date being so close to the regular season.
