MLB Injury Report – Dodgers lose a big offensive weapon

Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Wednesday, May 6, 2025. In today’s edition, the Dodgers will be without Teoscar Hernandez for quite a while, the Diamondbacks are anticipating a quick turnaround for Corbin Burnes, and William Contreras has a finger injury that could explain his offensive struggles. All of that and so much more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report

Teoscar Hernandez – OF Los Angeles Dodgers

What was once believed to be a groin strain is a Grade 1 abductor strain, causing Hernadez to head to the Injured List. According to manager Dave Roberts, he will miss weeks and be out of action for a while. While all of that is quite vague, it does point to an absence that is longer than the 10-day minimum. Chances are that he is back before June, but it’s hard to tell so early in the process. A typical timeline for a Grade 1 strain of this variety is a two to three-week absence.

Tommy Edman – INF/OF Los Angeles Dodgers

Edman was placed on the Injured List four days ago with an ankle injury backdated to April 30. As such, he can return from the Injured List this weekend, but it would appear that he needs more than the ten-day minimum. While the absence will only be extended by a few days, it’s worth noting that this is just another instance of an injury that didn’t heal as quickly as expected…..with last year’s wrist being another one in question. Still, as long as this absence doesn’t extend too much longer, it isn’t much to worry about.

Corbin Burnes – SP Arizona Diamondbacks

Interesting development here. Burnes taking a cortisone injection is a bit worrisome, as it’s only a matter of time before it wears off and we have an even worse situation than we do right now. That being said, in the meantime, it will be great to have Burnes and his production value on the mound for the Diamondbacks and fantasy purposes. It will be interesting to see how he responds once he does (likely) return this weekend, but fantasy owners would be wise to either sell high or look for alternatives on their bench for the chance that this backfires sooner rather than later.

Gabriel Moreno – C Arizona Diamondbacks

Moreno injured himself while making a tag at the plate on Tuesday, thus resulting in his absence last night and today as well. The team feels confident in his return after that, but time will tell. Stay tuned.

Ivan Herrera – C St. Louis Cardinals

That was the plan going into last night’s rehab game. Herrera finished 1-for-3 last night and was replaced in the top of the 8th inning, meaning that he did catch all seven innings in what could be his final game with Memphis. There were no reports of injuries, setbacks, or recurring pain, so chances are it was a successful night for Herrera, who could be back as soon as possible.

Josh Lowe – OF Tampa Bay Rays

After experiencing a setback with some back spasms, Lowe appears to be powering through and ready to make the next (and likely last) step in his recovery.

Yandy Diaz – 1B Tampa Bay Rays

Diaz injured himself while swinging a bat yesterday and was forced to leave the game mid-AB. Fortunately, the team believes this is a minor issue and that he will return to the lineup today. Still, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him miss today’s game as a precaution. Regardless, this doesn’t appear to be a serious issue.

William Contreras – C Milwaukee Brewers

That is an interesting development here, as Contreras’ finger might be preventing him from maximizing his potential at the plate. He has struggled offensively this season to live up to last season’s hype, and this could be a big reason why. We don’t know when this injury happened, how long he’s been dealing with or if it’s getting better or worse over time. That being said, the hope is that these X-rays will help determine the next steps on his road to recovery.

Giancarlo Stanton – OF New York Yankees

From the sound of it, Stanton will be coming back primarily as the team’s designated hitter, without the need to put on a glove and play in the field. That would make his return to the team much more expedited and efficient in nature. He still has a ways to go before getting to that point, as it’s unclear if he has physically recovered from his major tennis elbow issue from earlier this year. That being said, he’s taken swings at the plate in practice in the form of some batting practice, so he has made progress.

Michael Soroka – SP Washington Nationals
