Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Let’s Look to Kansas City

This isn’t the time to slow down. Even when you think your team is settled and locked in, it never is. Don’t stop looking for ways to improve your team, as there are multiple types of players that can fit the bill.

In doing our weekly diligence, the criteria for inclusion in our waiver wire recommendations will generally be any player rostered in less than 50% of Fantrax leagues (as of 6/03 ), with some exceptions. The popularity of Dynasty leagues on Fantrax does sway some of these percentages compared to other platforms, but these are players who should be on your radar.

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Recommendations

Jac Caglianone, 1B, Kansas City Royals

It was inevitable that we were going to start here. Quite honestly, Jac Caglianone could be the biggest waiver wire addition remaining for 2025. The problem, though, is that it’s possible he might not be available in your league. It’s very likely Caglianone was stashed in your league based on his upside and talent. If not, though, this is a situation in which you need to be aggressive.

The Kansas City Royals are desperately in need of power and run production, so it was only logical that they would promote Caglianone. He’s going to play in the outfield, so that multi-positional eligibility will be a nice bonus. That’s also something not to overlook. You don’t want to fall into the line of thinking where you are set at first base and corner infield, that you ignore his pending eligibility.

Prior to his promotion, Caglianone certainly showed that there was nothing left to prove in the minor leagues. After 38 games in Double-A, Caglianone was promoted and spent 12 games in Triple-A. Overall, he hit .322 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI. While those numbers won’t continue at the same level, it’s clear there’s legitimate potential here.

Ronny Mauricio, 2B, New York Mets

After the top prospect missed all of last season due to a knee injury, the New York Mets were planning to take things slow with Ronny Mauricio. Prior to the injury last off-season, Mauricio was right on the cusp of making a true impact in the major leagues. Initially, his rehab was progressing well in 2024, but a subsequent surgery slowed that pace.

That delayed ramp led to the Mets, rightfully so, taking their time with Mauricio’s rehab so far in 2025. Once Mauricio shook off the rust, he absolutely dominated in nine games at Triple-A. He hit .515 with three home runs, four stolen bases, eight RBI, and 10 runs scored. Considering his experience, at this point, there shouldn’t be any concerns with Mauricio.

Ultimately, it was a hamstring injury to Mark Vientos that led to Mauricio’s promotion. He joins a strong lineup in which there won’t be any pressure thanks to its overall depth. Even if he scores runs and steals some bases, there’s fantasy value in play.

Parker Meadows, OF, Detroit Tigers

An injury led to Parker Meadows starting the season on the Injured List, but the outfielder is healthy and back in Detroit’s lineup. At this point in the season, the pressure is limited on Meadows as the Tigers are in the midst of a strong season.

To this point in his career, Meadows has struggled with putting the potential together to meet expectations. Overall, last year, Meadows finished with nine home runs and nine RBI in 82 games while hitting .244. Based on what we saw from Meadows in the minor leagues, there’s legitimate 20/20 potential here. In his season debut, Meadows picked up two hits while stealing a base and scoring three times.

If he wasn’t stashed on your Injured List, now is the time to add Meadows as he figures to be right in the middle of Detroit’s offense.

Addison Barger, 3B/OF, Toronto Blue Jays

With his power on full display, Addison Barger has become an interesting addition as of late. Over the past seven days, Barger has four home runs and eight RBI. In fact, that has been the majority of Barger’s production this season, with four of his six home runs coming in this stretch.

Overall, Barger is hitting .266 in 40 games with 19 RBI and a .227 ISO. While Barger wouldn’t be considered an overwhelming power threat, there is some pop in his bat. Now that he’s being given the chance to play every day, Barger is an interesting name to keep an eye on.

Jeffrey Springs, SP, Athletics

The Athletics’ home park has turned their pitchers into streaming options. That’s certainly the case when it comes to Jeffrey Springs. He is a talented pitcher if we are going to look at him in the composite, but there has been a clear difference when it comes to his splits.

After Springs’ most recent stretch, it shouldn’t be surprising to see him on the waiver wire. When you have a 6.14 ERA in your last three starts, what else would you expect? Unfortunately, we truly aren’t in the position to look at Springs’ statistics in total this season. In 35 innings on the road this season, Springs has a 3.86 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 35 innings. While it’s not domination, the results are pretty solid.

This week, Springs takes the mound twice. The good news is that both of his starts are coming on the road this week, against the Angels and Royals. Each of those are also winnable matchups.

Mick Abel, SP, Philadelphia Phillies

It’s only two starts in the major leagues, but Mick Abel is showing no signs of slowing down. The debut from the former first-round pick was a long time coming, but so far, Abel is proving that he was worth the wait. To this point, it has been up and down for Abel in the minor leagues, but he had a 2.21 ERA in 10 starts in Triple-A prior to his promotion.

After six scoreless innings in his debut, while striking out nine, Abel followed that up by allowing one run over 5.1 innings on Wednesday. It’s not going to be this easy every time out for Abel, but there’s no reason why he won’t continue to have success. At the very least, he has the backing of a strong lineup and bullpen.
