Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Tuesday, June 17, 2025. In today’s edition, we get a ton of Astros updates, including news on Lance McCullers Jr., Spencer Arrighetti, and Yordan Alvarez. All of that and so much more in today’s MLB Injury Report from Fantrax.
MLB Injury Report
Lance McCullers – SP Houston Astros
Lance McCullers Jr.’s sprained right foot came after what manager Joe Espada described as a “freak accident” on Saturday in the weight room. The sprain is above McCullers’ big toe. Espada hopes it will only be the requisite 15 days on the injured list.

This is a very unfortunate accident, as McCullers had been pitching well up until his last start. It’s interesting to note that he hasn’t been pitching in about a week, and that he was set to pitch before being diagnosed with this ailment. There’s always a small part of anything Astros-related that keeps one eye open on any assessment, since they have bungled up so many in the past. Could this be a phantom injury covering up something else? Is this toe injury more serious than what’s been revealed? Who knows these days with Houston? For now, let’s take their word on it, but we’ve been burned before.
Houston Astros – Team Update

A lot to unpack here, but for fantasy purposes, let’s dig into specific updates. First, Spencer Arrighetti throwing from flat ground is great news, and his status will be changing later this week when he reports to the team’s facility in Florida. He remains on a timetable to return at some point in July. As for Yordan Alvarez, there were rumors one week ago that he could start hitting, but it would appear that those were false. With him staying back, it’s unclear when he will start hitting, but when he does, that will be the sign that his fractured hand is fully healed. The frustration of fantasy owners continues to rise. Finally, with the team needing help in the outfield, it’s good news that Chas McCormick has begun hitting from a tee, but he still has a ways to go. Zach Dezenzo, on the other hand, is similar to Alvarez in that he hasn’t hit and may not hit for a while. If there were a list of projected return dates, it would appear that McCormick will be back first, then probably Dezenzo, and finally, Alvarez would be last, given how obscure everything is with him right now.
Bryson Stott – 2B/SS Philadelphia Phillies
Phils manager Rob Thomson on @NBCSPhilly says Bryson Stott hyperextended his elbow and he may have the night off tomorrow night. Bryson is batting just 236
— John Clark (@JClarkNBCS) June 17, 2025
Stott somehow stayed in the entire game last night, finishing with one hit in four at-bats. It appears that he will need at least one game off, although the severity of the situation will be determined once he arrives at the ballpark today and teams can assess his condition.
Dane Myers – OF Miami Marlins
.#Marlins manager Clayton McCullough on OF Dane Myers: "It was a tough spot to get hit there on the elbow. Tried to go and some swelling came into the area, so it was going to be tough to swing at that point. We'll evaluate tonight, he'll get treatment, and we'll see tomorrow"
— Steve Gorten (@sgorten) June 17, 2025
Myers took a pitch straight onto the elbow, causing his immediate exit from Monday’s game. As mentioned here by manager Clayton McCullough, more about his situation will be known today, with the possibility of him missing some time. Stay tuned.
Shane McClanahan – SP Tampa Bay Rays
Kevin Cash gave an update on Shane McClanahan, who threw from 100+ feet last week. He's flying to Texas tomorrow to visit with a nerve specialist, Dr. Pearl. "Shane is doing great," Cash said. "I mean, really good. He says it's the best he's felt."
— Ryan Bass (@Ry_Bass) June 16, 2025
The good news here is that McClanahan is throwing from over 100 feet, which is around the end of stage one, where pitchers play catch at various distances. His next hurdle will be to throw from a mound, which will likely be completed if and when he gets clearance from the nerve specialist to do so. It’s great to hear that he believes he’s feeling as good as he’s ever felt, but the high-intensity throws from 60 feet and six inches are when the arm is challenged the most. Stay tuned.
Kodai Senga – SP New York Mets

Even though Kodai Senga’s hamstring strain was labelled as mild, he is still shut down for at least another ten days, maybe more. The most helpful note here is that, for pitchers, they require as much time to build up as they did to shut down, so his absence from baseball activities should be closely monitored.
Frankie Montas – SP New York Mets

Frankie Montas has had difficulty showing any promise throughout his rehab assignment, giving the Mets some worry and pause to put him back into the rotation right away. As such, it would appear that Plan B is to have him inserted into the bullpen and used there as a way to help him build up health and confidence moving forward. With Senga out of the picture for the time being, they must be worried, given that they could use someone else in the rotation
Mark Vientos – 3B New York Mets
SWAGGY V‼️@mets Mark Vientos is scheduled to begin a Major League Rehab Assignment with Syracuse, TOMORROW, Tuesday 6/17 at NBT Bank Stadium.

— Syracuse Mets (@SyracuseMets) June 16, 2025
Great news here, as Vientos is one hurdle away from rejoining the Mets in New York. The belief here is that this rehab assignment won’t be as long as others.
Cade Povich – SP Baltimore Orioles
Cade Povich isn’t expected to be out long, Tony Mansolino said. “We definitely feel like it’s minor.”
Povich had been pitching through a little something in his hip and now was the best time to put him on IL.
Mansolino mum on whether Trevor Rogers will start Wednesday.
— Jacob Calvin Meyer (@jcalvinmeyer) June 16, 2025
The feeling here is that the team is hoping to get ahead of anything major by addressing the issue right away. By giving him two weeks off, he could eliminate the pain and be back to full strength by July. The team will need him as they are thin on starting pitching resources. We could see Trevor Rogers at some point.
Zack Gelof – 2B The Athletics
Zack Gelof will begin a rehab assignment tomorrow with Triple-A Las Vegas. He’ll play tomorrow as the DH for the Aviatiors.
— Martín Gallegos (@MartinJGallegos) June 16, 2025
The hope here is that Gelof can complete this rehab assignment without any setbacks, which would be different from his last go-around.
