MLB Injury Report

Zach Neto – SS Los Angeles Angels

This is very concerning, given that Neto missed extensive time earlier in the season for the same shoulder. We won’t know more until later on, but chances are that he misses today’s game as they evaluate and figure out what to do. Montgomery was later quoted as saying that the team wants to see how he feels after sleeping on it. Stay tuned, as this could have a significant impact on fantasy.

Houston Astros – Team Update

The biggest news here is that Yordan Alvarez was seen hitting off a tee over the weekend, which is a step in the right direction. Alvarez has said that when he feels better, he will be able to start swinging a bat, and here it is. He was also said to be playing catch, so both signs are that he is feeling better. There is no news about his hand being fully healed, but the last we heard weeks ago was that it was 60% healed. All in all, this is a positive step forward. As for Spencer Arrighetti, he continues to ramp up from a broken hand injury that has cost him his entire season thus far. He was set to throw a side session yesterday, too, but it’s unclear as of this writing if that happened. Lance McCullers Jr. took a big step forward by playing catch yesterday. The team will likely wait to see how he feels today before deciding if he can ramp things up.

Bryce Harper – 1B Philadelphia Phillies

Harper continues to show progress, as 50 swings is no small feat. The team will likely see how he feels today before deciding if he can continue to advance with his recovery. While he may not be activated today, there’s a chance that it happens this weekend or early next week.

Corbin Carroll – OF Arizona Diamondbacks

This is awful news for the Diamondbacks, as they once again lose one of their star players. This time it’s a hitter, and someone who is a five-category stud. Looking into the injury itself, most wrist fractures take approximately six weeks for which it takes players to heal and regain enough strength and stability to return. There have been instances in the past, however, where it takes players longer, and even when they do return, they’re not the same player that they once were. In addition to that, the team may be sellers at the deadline and be out of contention, which could result in delayed returns where the Diamondbacks don’t want to push him back for a return. This is a disastrous situation, and there are no players out there on the waiver wire that can come close to doing what Carroll does.

Sean Manaea – SP New York Mets

One week ago, the Mets were filled with anticipation for his 2025 debut, and now he is being shut down. The next week will be quite telling for where he is physically, as his renewed soreness is worrisome. There was talk about surgery being an option after the season, which brings into question the team’s willingness to put him out there once this pain goes away now. It feels like the Bryce Miller situation, in that the team feels that they can manage this for the season and then will explore other options for health. As for the current state, the Mets feel like he will be able to throw at his next rehab start in a week and then debut afterward. Manaea should be someone that, if you choose to roster or stash, make sure it costs you nothing, and that he has the shortest leash imaginable. He has the upside to produce on the mound, but there’s a chance that this spins out of control and that his season is done before it starts.

Daulton Varsho – OF Toronto Blue Jays

This, unfortunately, feels like a lost season for Varsho. First, he misses time recovering from his shoulder injury, and now he has a hamstring injury, complete with setbacks. While there is still time left to play and be a meaningful contributor, his timing while at the plate will be in question with so many physical ailments.
