MLB Injury Report

Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros

The Astros released this information yesterday regarding the ongoing treatment for Alvarez. From the report, it has been made known that the main cause of his ongoing pain is inflammation in his hand, and not because of the fracture. As such, it would appear that holding tight and standing pat would be the best course of action to avoid re-triggering this pain. From here, knowing when to push forward with his recovery and next steps remains the most important part, and it’s something that the Astros have failed to do on many occasions. They continue to face criticism for pushing players too soon to recover, and as such, we’ve seen many instances of players injuring themselves further.

Jeremy Pena – SS Houston Astros

The important word here is “could,” as it’s a possibility. The likelihood of that happening is unknown, but it’s at least on the table here for Pena. However, as mentioned earlier, due to the criticism of them constantly pushing players to return sooner than they should, the hope is that the Astros take a cautious approach with Pena. A small rib fracture, like the one he has, can easily become bigger if his body starts moving in ways that it shouldn’t.

Clarke Schmidt – SP New York Yankees

Schmidt has now given up seven runs in his last two starts over nine innings pitched. He had not surrendered a run in his last three outings, which lasted 20.2 innings pitched, but also pitched very deep into these contests. It’s unclear when exactly this happened, but looking at the results, one can make some safe assumptions. We should find out more today regarding the situation, but it would appear that the Yankees will be looking for a starter at the trade deadline.

Kodai Senga – SP New York Mets

Promising news out of New York regarding the Mets and their ace, as Senga could be back sooner than expected. The hope here is that the team’s need at the position doesn’t cloud their judgment and push him back sooner than he should be.

Sean Manaea – SP New York Mets

Manaea did well during his last outing, building himself up to 60 pitches thrown. With the team’s need for starting pitching, he may very well find himself on the mound for the Mets right before the All-Star Game.

Christian Moore – 2B Los Angeles Angels

Just an awful break for a promising rookie trying to get his career off the ground.

Max Muncy – 3B Los Angeles Dodgers

Muncy was placed on the Injured List yesterday, but the good news is that there were no damages done to the ligaments in his knee. It’s hard to imagine a world where he is back before September, making it quite possible that the Dodgers look for his replacement at the Trade Deadline.

Tyler Glasnow – SP Los Angeles Dodgers

Keep an eye on this situation, but it feels like Glasnow will be back within the next week. He was able to ramp his way back up to 76 pitches thrown, a high 90’s fastball, and he struck out eight batters. He seems ready.

Matt Chapman – 3B San Francisco Giants

From the looks and sounds of things, we could see Chapman back with the Giants just before the All-Star Break. That would be quite the feat, considering he was expected to be out of action for far longer than that.

Masataka Yoshida – OF Boston Red Sox

All reports are that Yoshida feels great. He also finished 1-for-3 with a single in this game. His time here will be spent regaining his timing.

Corbin Carroll – OF Arizona Diamondbacks

Carroll finished that game 0-for-2 with two walks and played in the field. He is doing his best to return quickly and give the Diamondbacks a chance to win. Let’s just hope that he’s not pushing it too hard, as a chip fracture can be a very serious injury that costs multiple weeks away.

Wyatt Langford – OF Texas Rangers

That home run was a monstrous shot hit to center field. He looks just about ready to return, and fantasy owners should BE PREPARED!
