MLB Injury Report
Freddie Freeman – 1B Los Angeles Dodgers
Dave Roberts said x-rays were negative on Freddie Freeman. “Day to day category,” Roberts said.
— Fabian Ardaya (@FabianArdaya) July 20, 2025
Freeman was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning of Sunday’s game, and he immediately took himself out of it. The good news here is that the results of the X-rays are negative, meaning that there is likely no fracture whatsoever. His status moving forward will need to be monitored, as he should be considered day-to-day, as mentioned by manager Dave Roberts.
Roki Sasaki – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
Good news for Roki Sasaki and the #Dodgers! pic.twitter.com/H4SzWwatLv
— Dodger Blue (@DodgerBlue1958) July 20, 2025
Saski hit 93 miles per hour in his latest bullpen, and he used all of his pitches in this session. This is great news for both he and the Dodgers, as he is slowly but surely making his way back from this injury that has kept him out of action since the beginning of May. He is pain-free, and if he continues to be so after yesterday’s step forward, he may advance to live batters soon enough.
Los Angeles Dodgers – Team Update
Blake Snell will have at least one more rehab outing before he’s activated, Dave Roberts said. https://t.co/tdDXx2G35l
— Fabian Ardaya (@FabianArdaya) July 20, 2025
It appears that Blake Snell will need at least one more start, despite yesterday’s success. The good news is that he’s up to 58 pitches thrown, and he looked quite effective while doing so. The team will likely want him to build up toward at least 75 pitches before he’s ready for a return, so at least one more start seems warranted. As for Blake Treinen, he worked a perfect inning and touched 97 miles per hour. He could be ready for a return any day now.
Javier Baez – OF Detroit Tigers
AJ Hinch said Javier Baez told him he wasn't feeling right, no other details. Just that he wasn't feeling right.
— Chris McCosky (@cmccosky) July 21, 2025
Baez leaving yesterday’s game early was concerning enough, but to then be told that he left because he wasn’t feeling right is scary. Hopefully it was just a one-off, but there have been reports about him not feeling good for a while and managing a shoulder issue from a slide he made in June.
Pete Alonso – 1B New York Mets
Pete Alonso has a "right hand contusion" near the base of his thumb, Carlos Mendoza said. But X-rays were negative, and he could be available off the bench. https://t.co/tkPQPlGaYY
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) July 20, 2025
Alonso did come off the bench, making an appearance late in Sunday’s game. Given that, there’s a good chance that he will be back in the Mets’ lineup later tonight against the Angels.
Austin Riley – 3B Atlanta Braves
Austin Riley has been running in the outfield and running around the bases for the past 20-plus minutes. I would expect him to be activated from the injured list when he's eligible on Tuesday
— Mark Bowman (@mlbbowman) July 20, 2025
Mark Bowman is pretty locked into the Braves, and he’s been right more often than he’s not when it comes to predicting returns from the Injured List. Whether or not it happens tomorrow remains to be seen, but Bowman’s belief here should mean that it’s close nonetheless.
Isaac Paredes – 3B Houston Astros
Astros have placed IF Isaac Paredes on the 10-day IL due to a right hamstring strain and optioned C César Salazar to Triple-A Sugar Land.
IF Shay Whitcomb recalled and Jon Singleton (#35) selected from Triple-A Sugar Land. IF Brendan Rodgers to the 60-day IL.
— Brian McTaggart (@brianmctaggart) July 20, 2025
The Astros placed Paredes on the Injured List without knowing the severity of his hamstring strain, which should speak volumes about how bad this injury is. Paredes himself said after the game on Saturday that it felt very bad and worse than his previous hamstring strain from a year ago. This has the possibility to be season-ending, given the timing of it, but without jumping to worst-case-scenario conclusions, it’s fair to say that the Astros will be without their starting third baseman for a while.
Alec Bohm – 3B Philadelphia Phillies
Prior to tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Angels, the Phillies placed INF Alec Bohm on the 10-day IL with a fractured left rib. To fill his spot on the 26-man roster, INF/OF Weston Wilson was recalled from Lehigh Valley (AAA).
— Philadelphia Phillies (@Phillies) July 19, 2025
It wouldn’t be surprising to see Bohm out of action for the next month, as manager Rob Thompson speculated in an interview early on the weekend. With that in mind, the Phillies may opt to trade for a replacement here.
Brandon Lowe – 2B Tampa Bay Rays
#Rays B. Lowe left game due to a plantar fasciitis flare-up in his left foot. Was going to be off Sunday anyway, should be available off bench.
— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) July 20, 2025
Plantar fasciitis is not only painful, it can linger and stay around for a long time. There is a chance that this is a significant long-term injury here for Lowe, who may not return today or play at all this week. There wasn’t much news on the severity of this situation or if he’s been dealing with it for any amount of time recently. The team should offer updates today, though. Stay tuned.
