MLB Injury Report – Is the Roman Empire Crumbling?

Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Tuesday, August 5, 2025. In today’s report, we get an update on Roman Anthiny’s condition, Chandler Simpson’s finger, and Hunter Greene’s rehab. Plus, the Blue Jays and the Braves give extensive reports on some fantasy-relevant players. All of that and so much more in today’s MLB Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report

Roman Anthony – OF Boston Red Sox

Anthony missed last night’s game with back tightness, and he will miss at least one more to ensure that this situation doesn’t escalate. The hope is that by tomorrow, he will have shaken off this pain and will be ready to go for the remainder of the season.

Chris Sale – SP Atlanta Braves

Great news here on Sale, though given the description here, his return could be in the final week of the season, or it could be in the final month. We just don’t know much right now. Regardless, this is good news.

Atlanta Braves – Team Update

https://twitter.com/DOBrienATL/status/1952469367603794052

Not a big surprise here on Spencer Schwellenbach, as the Braves are seemingly out of contention right now. As for Reynaldo Lopez, the same applies here. Neither was expected back at the time of their injuries, and both should be dropped in all redraft leagues.

Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros

Alvarez’s condition will be telling not just during the batting practice session, but afterward, to see if his hand continues to hurt. If it does, then it could be something that even rest cannot heal that needs to be done. Without this writer jumping to conclusions (as I’m not a doctor), let’s just take this one step at a time and hope that the batting practice session goes well.

Chandler Simpson – OF Tampa Bay Rays

Simpson hasn’t played since the last day of July, but each day since then has seen him progress somewhat. It appears that he is all but ready to make his return to the Rays’ lineup, where he will be welcomed with open arms due to their struggles.

Ryan Mountcastle – 1B Baltimore Orioles

This is a change from the original plan of having Mountcastle back against the Phillies. There were no reasons for this delay, but it’s not believed to be injury-related. That said, with the Orioles out of contention, this feels like more along the lines of playing it safe.

Grayson Rodriguez – SP Baltimore Orioles

This doesn’t seem like a surprise, as Rodriguez has been out of action all season with various issues in his elbow, shoulder, and arm area in general. The idea here is that the debridement will get rid of any issues now to help prevent future injuries. It’s unclear if this is the way to go, but for now, it’s the best way.

Nick Lodolo – SP Cincinnati Reds

Lodolo left early last night, and the good news is that it’s not an arm or elbow injury. Instead, he will likely miss at least one start (and possibly go on the Injured List) while this blister heals itself.

Hunter Greene – SP Cincinnati Reds

With that news, Greene will remain out of lineups for this week, but becomes a prime candidate to return next week. Fantasy owners who have been patient for this long are asked to remain such for one more week.

Toronto Blue Jays – Team Update

Massive update here from Hazel Mae with some pretty big fantasy ramifications. First, Anthony Santander is still progressing toward swinging a bat, which is well overdue, given how long he has been out of action. He remains an option for the month of September, but time is running out on him. As for George Springer, he seems poised to begin a rehab assignment, though if he feels well enough after one or two games, he could be back sooner rather than later. Shane Bieber, still in a rehab assignment, isn’t surprising, as he just arrived with his new team. Great news on Andres Gimenez starting a rehab assignment today, as he could be back soon after that. Finally, Alek Manoah continues to progress, though it’s unclear if there will be a roster spot for him when that rehab assignment is complete.

New York Yankees – Team Update

Austin Slater’s diagnosis came pretty quickly, as his injury felt quite severe. We should know more about him today. As for Aaron Judge and his return: Be prepared!!!!
