MLB Injury Report – Corey Seager Setback

Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Friday, August 29, 2025. In today’s report, Corey Seager will be out of action for quite some time, Michael King will take a step forward toward a return in the near future, and the Dodgers will get some reinforcements back in time for a playoff run. Read about all of this and so much more in today’s MLB Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report

Corey Seager – SS Texas Rangers

Very unfortunate news here, as Seager will miss most, if not all, of whatever is left of the regular season. A reminder that he has had two sports hernia surgeries in the past eighteen months as well, and while they may not be related injuries, they’re in somewhat the same vicinity within the body. There could be something there in the midsection that’s causing these repeated setbacks. As for this injury and the fantasy repercussions, he will need extended time away from which to recover, and with the Rangers still within striking distance of a Wild Card spot, this is a major blow.

Evan Carter – OF Texas Rangers

Carter ends his season on a sour note, bringing up questions of whether he can stay healthy over a 162-game period. Since his 23-game breakout in 2023, he has only played in 108 games in the last two seasons, both of which have been injury-riddled.

Colson Montgomery – SS Chicago White Sox

If Montgomery is feeling it in both facets of the game, chances are he won’t be ready to return anytime soon. Furthermore, if it is an oblique injury, he could miss the rest of the season. While the team wants to take things slowly with the chance of giving their future star as much growth on the field now, when the games don’t matter, they don’t want to push him to the point of further damaging himself. It’s a tricky situation here.

Francisco Alvarez – C New York Mets

Alvarez was already out of action, recovering from a right thumb injury before this happened. In just sixteen months since arriving in the majors, he has had multiple trips to the Injured List and multiple surgeries to repair a multitude of injuries to both hands. His dynasty status has taken a drastic freefall.

Frankie Montas – SP New York Mets

The article in question here also mentions that Montas has a $17 million player option that will kick in should he accept it. There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that he will be activating that, as he could very well have thrown his final pitch as a Major League starter. He is 32 years old, and this will take him into the 2027 season before a return is even considered.

Michael King – SP San Diego Padres

The good news is that King is set for another sim game this weekend, as he will look to build on his previous output of 44 pitches thrown. The hope is that this is his last such outing, but given how much time he has lost this season, and how valuable he is to the team long-term, chances are this won’t be it. Fantasy owners should not expect much from him down the stretch, volume-wise.

Los Angeles Dodgers – Team Update

It looks like the Dodgers will gain some reinforcements down the stretch, as they attempt to win another National League West division title. Keeping them healthy and in the lineup with consistency will be the challenge, but that’s a good problem to have for Los Angeles. It could be frustrating for fantasy baseball managers, though, who play in weekly leagues.

Connor Norby – 3b Miami Marlins
