Our long, sometimes arduous journey that is the 2025 fantasy baseball season is coming to an end. There is just one week left before Major League Baseball’s playoffs begin. Before I get to the Week 27 Hitting Planner (and this week’s disclaimers), I just wanted to say thank you. I appreciate everyone who has read this column each week for the past six months. Thank you for every click, like, and share, and thank you for the comments and feedback. Yes, even the negative ones. Especially the negative ones. Not everyone needs to like the format I used for this column, or even some of the numbers involved. We all have different data points that we give different levels of credence to, and that is fine. Now let’s get to this week’s column. You’ve got a fantasy baseball championship to win!

Week 27 Schedule Notes
Barring anything funky happening over the weekend as I am writing this, all 30 teams should be on equal footing. The schedule makers gave every team six games to play in Week 27. The only difference is that six teams play on Monday and are off on Thursday, while the other 24 play on Thursday and are off Monday. That should not make a ton of difference in weekly leagues, or even leagues with mid-week lineup changes. All teams will play three games in both the first and second halves of the week. Eleven teams play all six games at home, and 11 play on the road. Eight teams have split weeks, playing three games at home and three on the road.
Week 27 Starting Pitching Matchup Notes
As you surely have seen by now, starting pitching matchups are subject to change. Well, in Week 27, they are very subject to change. Teams are going to have a wide range of objectives when it comes to their starting pitchers. Those fighting for a playoff berth may opt for a shorter rotation. Others may save a particular hurler for a potential playoff game. Teams with young hurlers may cut their outings short to save their arms from too much wear and tear. I am keeping everything as though the teams will play is straightforward. But fantasy managers should remain diligent in keeping up with the latest news from around the league. Some teams may offer up some nuggets of knowledge via interviews or social media that can provide vital insight into how they are approaching things this week.
The Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners are neck and neck in the battle for the American League West Division. They are also fighting it out for the top spot in the Week 27 Hitting Planner. However, their paths to an offensive explosion this week are likely to be quite different. Houston faces a consistent array of hittable pitchers. They will square off against the likes of Luis Severino and Kyle Hendricks, with a couple of recent Major League callups sprinkled in. There is not a single matchup that I deem difficult among the six starters that Houston gets this week. On the flip side, Seattle plays the Colorado Rockies and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Rockies are an abysmal pitching staff, while the Dodgers are elite. The good news for Seattle is that Los Angeles should wrap up their division by next weekend, which means they may rest their starters.
Kansas City and San Francisco are other teams with favorable hitting matchups this week. The Royals make sense because they play the same two teams that Houston does. I give Houston a slight edge over Kansas City, but the margin is razor-thin. Also of note is that Kansas City will face three left-handed starters, while Houston should only face one. The Giants also face Colorado, hence their high rating. San Francisco also faces St. Louis. The Cardinals are a below-average pitching staff, although the Giants will face Sonny Gray while avoiding Miles Mikolas. I would have given the Giants the highest rating in the league this week had that been reversed. They are also likely to have been eliminated from the playoff race by the time their weekend series with Colorado rolls around. The team may elect to rest a hitter or two in that scenario.
Week 27 Ballpark Effects Notes
The Athletics wrap up their first season in Sacramento with a six-game home week. Sutter Health Park has been among the most hitter-friendly venues in recent memory. I base my ratings strictly on overall park factors for both left and right-handed hitters. By that metric, Sutter Health Park ranks only behind Coors Field for lefties and righties. The A’s face some tough pitching this week, but I would not go out of my way to bench their regulars. In addition to Houston and Kansas City facing the same two teams, they also both play the Athletics and Angels on the road. As a result, the Astros and Royals tied for the top spot in my Week 27 Hitting Planner, considering park factors. The combination of ballparks and opposing pitchers should lead to plenty of scoring for both Houston and Kansas City. Â
