Trades to Make in Dynasty Football

Trade For Brian Thomas Jr.

This suggestion is for both contenders and rebuilders, as Brian Thomas Jr. has been largely disappointing through five weeks. However, this past week, he connected with Trevor Lawrence on a clutch go route and helped the Jacksonville Jaguars win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Thomas Jr. had 80 yards in the victory and started to look like his 2024 self again. He is fourth in unrealized air yards with 301 yards, and 16th in expected fantasy points per game. Better days are ahead for Thomas Jr.

The target share is still there, and the next two games against the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams are easier matchups to build upon. Thomas Jr. is outside of the top-12 receivers in terms of dynasty value. And now is the time to make a trade for him. An early first-round pick would do the trick, or a player like D.K. Metcalf, plus a late first-round pick, could get the job done.

Rebuilders

Making Trades for the Future

Managers who rebuild can often accelerate their rebuilds by being proactive. Joe Burrow, Malik Nabers, Omarion Hampton, and Brandon Aiyuk are all examples of players to target in dynasty trades who are currently injured. And at the bare minimum, you should inquire about those players. Some of those players will be easier to trade for than others. That list also doesn’t include players who are underperforming expectations, either, like Chase Brown, Ladd McConkey, Jameson Williams, and TreVeyon Henderson.

Rebuilders can also target picks in trades while shedding potential points and wins from your rosters. 2026 picks can have a rough estimate assigned to them based on the current team record; however, if you can tap into 2027 picks, managers should prefer those picks if your team is a ways away.

Contenders

Trade for Chris Olave & Davante Adams

Chris Olave

These two receivers are second and third in expected fantasy points per game, only behind Puka Nacua. Both players are grouped here as they are likely both undervalued in dynasty leagues currently. Olave is getting all of the targets in New Orleans; he is at 54 targets, good for second. The average depth of Olave’s targets, being low at 7.1 yards per target, leaves something to be desired for Olave.

However, all of the other metrics are there for the former Ohio State receiver. The Saints are airing it out because they are behind in every game. They are sixth in passing attempts, and Olave’s target share is 31.3%. That is everything you can want out of an alpha receiver, outside of being on a different offense, of course. If a late first gets a trade done for Olave in dynasty, I would be happy to acquire him for just one pick.

Davante Adams

Now, for Davante Adams, most of the same applies to him as well. The only thing is that he is on a high-powered offense, but is firmly behind Puka Nacua in terms of targets. And that is okay because Davante Adams is on the Rams, who throw the ball the fifth most in the league. The passing offense is also heavily concentrated towards those two talented receivers. Adams is fourth in targets while Nacua is first. Inside the 20-yard line is the one place where Adams has Nacua beat. Adams is tied for the NFL lead with 10 red-zone targets through five weeks. If Adams is on a rebuilding or middling squad, In dynasty I would trade a second-round pick plus a promising young player, such as Isaac TeSlaa, for him. Adams is a WR1 for the rest of the season and has top-five upside with Stafford at quarterback.

Final Thoughts

Making moves is the key to success. And there are many moves and trades in dynasty to be made beyond these suggestions. When evaluating potential players to acquire, it is always essential to look beyond the box score. Advanced metrics like route win rate, yards per route run, and expected fantasy points per game are some useful ones. Fantasy football players are becoming increasingly sharper, so it is essential to stay ahead of the competition when new resources or statistics emerge. It is a new age for data in fantasy, but remember that there is always an edge to be found in this fun game that we play.
