Fantasy Baseball Injury Report

Francisco Lindor – SS New York Mets

Lindor took another step forward yesterday, as he took live batting practice both on the field and at the plate. This came days after he played on the field for around half of a game in a Minor League scrimmage game. He looks ready for Opening Day, or just after.

Kyle Teel – C Chicago White Sox

Teel suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain at the World Baseball Classic, and the estimated timeline for a return is 4-6 weeks. The hope is that he doesn’t rush himself back too quickly and reinjure himself. This will be a tough injury from which to return, simply because catcher reply on their hamstrings for each pitch of the game.

Quinn Priester – SP Milwaukee Brewers

This news came one day after it was revealed that he had a lingering nerve issue that is related to thoracic outlet syndrome, though that is not his exact diagnosis. The 25-year-old is dealing with a nerve issue in his wrist that spreads all the way up his arm, which is very similar to what TOS actually is. That said, it’s not as serious as the full-blown TOS. There is a lot unknown right now, but the fact that it has been an ongoing issue makes it a major challenge to address. While he did say that an optimistic late-April timeline is in the cards, he wasn’t very sure of that being very reasonable. This is an unfortunate development.

Logan Henderson – SP Milwaukee Brewers

This is something to monitor and keep at the back of your mind when deciding on drafting and/or rostering Henderson. How his body responds to his first Cactus League game will be key. This elbow issue started back at the end of last season and resurfaced once camp opened. That’s a somewhat big red flag that could mean an underlying issue that hasn’t been addressed.

Brandon Woodruff – SP Milwaukee Brewers

Interesting stuff here from Woodruff. First, he listened to his body and made sure that he went back out to the mound for the fourth “up” or inning, knowing that he would be able to give it more than anyone believed he could. In addition to that, he discussed the possibility of being in a six-man rotation, but knowing that there would be days when he would have to shrink the wait for five days, and the changes he would make to allow that to happen. Finally, he discussed that his body wore down last year, that it was expected, and that he is better prepared for that this season. I hope it all happens for him, but the cards are stacked against him, given the historical context surrounding this injury.

Jonathan India – 2B Kansas City Royals

While it’s likely the team is being extra cautious here regarding India’s health, it is somewhat concerning that he is injured now, with the season starting in just a couple of weeks. India is hoping to bounce back after a disastrous first season with the Royals, and starting the year on the Injured List won’t help his pursuit of redemption. We should know more after the team does some testing.

Isaac Collins – OF Kansas City Royals

Another case of the Royals being cautious here, with the season so close to starting. The hope is that he is okay and can get back into game situations in no time. Stay tuned.

Joe Musgrove – SP San Diego Padres

Musgrove had Tommy John Surgery in October of 2024, which was 17 months ago. The typical timeline for recovery from this injury is anywhere from 12-18 months, putting him on the cusp of the usual maximum allotted time between injury and return. At age 33, it’s quite possible that he doesn’t return to form like remember him, and that his body needs more time to recover. The offseason hype seemingly got out of hand, ignoring the difficulties that pitchers face when they attempt to return from this type of serious injury. All that being said, it’s too early to panic just yet, though needing extra rest this early into his pledge to return is eye-opening.

Robert Stephenson – RP Los Angeles Angels

What the issue was has yet to be disclosed, so it’s hard to tell whether this setback will cost him a legitimate shot at the closer’s spot or if he’ll begin the year on the Injured List. What we do know is that the team spent the offseason loading their bullpen with options who have recorded saves before, such as Kirby Yates, Jordan Romano, Drew Pomeranz, and Brent Suter. The team can easily pivot here, and likely will, considering that Stephenson himself said that he had Thoracic Outlet Syndrome symptoms in the offseason.
