When it comes to evaluating starting pitchers, there are multiple factors that go into a ranking. Of course, there’s the talent level and recent performance, along with the opponent matchup. However, there are also environmental factors to consider. This is the true wild card, as teams in more moderate climates can see a surge in home runs allowed by pitchers when the weather heats up. Given that most of the northern portion of the country will consistently hit the 80-degree temps now, from Boston to Seattle, a greater emphasis is given to those environmental considerations in this week’s starting pitcher rankings.
