MLB Injury Report

Cole Ragans – SP Kansas City Royals

This news felt inevitable from the get-go, but it still stings hard once it actually comes true. Ragans has been on the shelf with an elbow impingement for quite a while, and after a setback, he was transferred over to the 60-Day Injured List. Now, after a meeting with team doctors, it has been determined that he will require a procedure. It’s unclear exactly what it is, but given that we’re heading into July soon, this could be a season-ending operation regardless. In all redraft leagues, he is someone that can be dropped, though he might be worth stashing in dynasty leagues if the procedure is minor.

Bobby Witt Jr. – SS Kansas City Royals

Not all the news out of Kansas City was bad yesterday, as Witt was able to do some infield drills. The video of him moving around isn’t overly encouraging, but it could have just been him testing things out. He hasn’t played since June 18, and a reminder that he is playing through a Grade 1 MCL sprain. That’s not insignificant, and it feels like extended rest on the Injured List is the best course of action, despite the team’s desperation for offense.

Maikel Garcia – 3B Kansas City Royals

It’s days like this that can unofficially end a season in a hurry. The Royals’ bats were just starting to heat up, and Garcia will now miss some time with a hand injury that has hindered his play for quite some time. It’s unclear the severity of this situation, but given that he has had quite the down season overall, he may need more time than the ten-day minimum. We should know more in the coming days.

Juan Soto – OF New York Mets

Soto exited the game early, but the team has already made notes that he is deemed day-to-day. How he feels a day after his back locking up will be key to determining how much time he will miss. The Mets do play tomorrow, so there’s no break in the schedule to give the star an extra day off. That said, he’s played through worse before (forearm), and has yet to miss a beat.

CJ Abrams – SS Washington Nationals

The severity of the injury is unknown, but if this is something that lingers, it could be an oblique injury. If that’s the case, he would likely need a trip to the Injured List. That being said, let’s figure out exactly what he’s dealing with before we rush to judge. For now, consider him day-to-day, and let’s see what happens today.

Kyle Schwarber – OF Philadelphia Phillies

Schwarber was taken out of the lineup minutes before first pitch, as mentioned, so there’s a chance that this issue arose during batting practice. Better safe than sorry, and the Phillies will likely offer more updates as time goes on. For now, consider him day-to-day.

Jeremy Pena – SS Houston Astros

Pena did enter the game late as a pinch-hitter and played in the field, albeit for a very short amount of time. Needless to say, it looks like any major worries can be alleviated.

Los Angeles Dodgers – Team Update

The Dodgers are somehow more than 20 games above .500 on the season, and yet they’re missing their top two catchers and their starting outfielder who possesses a five-category arsenal. Additionally, they have so many other injuries, and yet they don’t miss a beat. Nothing here feels too serious for them, as the back injury to Kyle Tucker feels like it can be healed with some rest this week, while Dalton Rushing seems closer to a return.

Pittsburgh Pirates – Team Update

Good news all around for the Pirates, specifically with Jared Jones, as there is no structural damage to his elbow. That said, there is no confirmation that he will be ready to make his next scheduled start. As for Konnor Griffin, he may need extended time on this rehab assignment given that the team has said that they will take things slowly with him. That being said, it’s good news to see him take this next important step.

Jack Flaherty – SP Detroit Tigers

Given the fact that he is returning from an ankle injury, this could very well be a one-and-done type situation here.

Edward Cabrera – SP Chicago Cubs

Cabrera did the splits while attempting to make an out at first base, resulting in him having to be carted off the field. Judging by the fact that the team announced that he will head to the Injured List already without knowing the severity of the situation, this is likely a very serious issue that could cost him the rest of the season. Regardless of when he can return, it has been a disastrous season for both Cabrera and the Cubs, and this only adds fuel to the fire of how awful 2026 has been.

Jack Leiter – SP Texas Rangers

The loose bodies strike again, this time in the form of Leiter’s ankle. It’s unclear how long he’s been feeling this, but he’s given up fifteen runs over three starts since his ten-strikeout masterpiece on May 31. He might return, and the Rangers may or may not be in contention by then, which should have an impact on if he does throw again in 2026.

Eury Perez – SP Miami Marlins

Be prepared. This return blows me away because Perez is back so much sooner than expected.

Rafael Devers – 1B San Francisco Giants

This one is more of a theory than it is news, but apparently, Devers has been dealing with a hamstring issue for a while. Those don’t go away without rest, and running the bases could cause it to intensify. This is just something to monitor and keep in mind.
