MLB Injury Report

Los Angeles Dodgers – Team Update (I)

The note on Shohei Ohtani will be addressed below. As for Justin Wrobleski, when he does return, he will go into long relief, which is likely the best spot for him. There’s no real timetable for him to return, though the team believes it will be in September. Edwin Diaz probably won’t be the closer for the Dodgers for the remainder of this season, given his performance and the way that the team was speaking of him here. If Tanner Scott is somehow available, he is a must-add. Finally, with respect to Tyler Glasnow, BE PREPARED!

Los Angeles Dodgers – Team Update (II)

Major update here from the Dodgers, with the biggest one being that Shohei Ohtani could be back pitching as soon as next week. He’s been throwing bullpen sessions, and his latest one was 30 pitches in length. It’s been made known that he will likely be slowly reintroduced into the rotation, which probably means a pitch count. Fantasy baseball managers shouldn’t expect much at first, but his return does help in leagues where he is listed as two separate entities. Also, Eric Lauer is in the bullpen because of the influx of better pitchers already in the rotation. That said, he will be there in long relief, possibly after Ohtani (my guess). Will Smith is starting a rehab assignment this week, and he may return sometime in early September. Finally, Andy Pages did in fact have surgery, as he had screws inserted into his fractured hand. The timeline for him to return puts it against the wall, making it highly unlikely he provides much, if any, fantasy value for 2026.

Pittsburgh Pirates – Team Update

First the great: Ryan O’Hearn is tracking positively, as mentioned. The fact that they are already discussing specific timelines is a great sign that he is close. He recovered quickly from his last injury earlier this year and appears to be doing so again. As for Konnor Griffin, he continues to trend in the right direction at the speed he should. If the Pirates can somehow maintain some sort of contention for the next two weeks, there’s a chance that they can make a late-season run. Finally, Endy Rodriguez appears to be headed for another surgery, thus ending his season prematurely.

Ryan Weathers – SP New York Yankees

Weathers left Saturday’s game early with forearm pain. A day later, he was placed on the Injured List with a forearm flexor strain. While the team believes he will throw again this season, it feels like he’s more of a playoff option, and a reliever option at that. I could be wrong, but given the nature of the injury and the players that should be able to pitch for the Yankees by then, I just don’t see Weathers making much of an impact in 2026.

Roman Anthony – OF Boston Red Sox

There was some talk about Anthony possibly returning to the Red Sox as soon as today, but alas, the decision was made to give him more time on his rehab assignment. The team likely wants him to work on his timing at the plate. Since going 2-for-4 with a home run in his first game back, he has since gone 1-for-8 with four strikeouts. This, alongside continuous testing of his thumb, are of key importance here, as Boston continues to make a push for the playoffs.

Ketel Marte – 2B Arizona Diamondbacks

Only analysis of his injury will be discussed. It’s good that Marte is back working out, throwing, and using his upper body. That said, given the entire picture involved here, there is no timetable for a return, which could actually be in 2027.

Kyle Teel – C Chicago White Sox

Teel is recovering faster than expected, but he could return soon enough. Go stash him right now if you can. I’ll wait………..done? Good.

Willy Adames – SS San Francisco Giants

The good news here is that the injury was not sustained on his back, which has given him problems all season long. The bad news is that it’s his elbow. Hopefully it’s nothing major, and he’s able to come back soon enough. The Giants don’t have today off, so we should know more later before first pitch.

Griffin Jax – SP Tampa Ba Rays

In total, Jax threw 42 pitches over those three innings of work. The team has been pleased with how his body has responded, and it’s very well possible that he returns to the rotation next week. With about a month left in the season, he has about four or five starts left in him before the (hopeful) playoffs. This would be a big return for the Rays, especially if he can return to form.

Kyle Stowers – 1B/OF Miami Marlins

Be prepared!

Bryan Woo – SP Seattle Mariners

All of this feels positive, as Woo continues to defy the odds. When he returns remains a mystery, but at least he is trending in the right direction and could give fantasy baseball managers about a month’s worth of production. Stay tuned.

Brendan Donovan – 2B Seattle Mariners

A day after taking a ball to the head in the batting cage, Donovan will head to the 7-day Injured List with a concussion. With only 39 games played, this feels like a lost season for both the 29-year-old and the Mariners.
