EPL Season Review: Starting XI of the Bust Draft Picks

Bust Goalkeeper

Alisson – Liverpool – ADP 85 – Positional Rank: 13 – Overall Rank: 127

It might be a little harsh to label Alisson as a bust, considering he still had a solid average of about 8.24 points per game, despite missing 10 games due to injury. However, Fantrax managers on average drafted him in round 8, and he finished 127th overall in total points, which is a letdown for managers. He was the first keeper drafted in most leagues and ended 13th in points for keepers. He still finished with 10 clean sheets this season, but his 78 saves were lower than in previous seasons. His 230.75 total points was about 100 less than his two previous seasons where he had 328 and 317 points.

Honorable Mention:

Ederson – Manchester City –  ADP:104  – Positional Rank: 16 – Overall Rank: 155

Bust Defenders

Kieran Trippier – Newcastle – ADP:35  – Positional Rank: 64 – Overall Rank: 201

Kieran Trippier had a really tough season as he was drafted on average 35th overall but finished the season as the 201st best player. Tripper had a tough start to the season with injuries and transfer rumors while also battling Tino Livramento for the right back position. Tripper finished with 3 assists on the season and had a stronger end of the season, but only started 14 games all season long. Many managers who drafted him early in the draft will be rueing their choice after he had such a strong season in 2023-2024.

Ben White – Arsenal – ADP: 38 – Positional Rank: 78 – Overall Rank: 242

Ben White was another defensive bust this season, drafted around pick 38 but finishing 242nd overall. White’s season was derailed by injuries, managing just 17 appearances with only 13 starts for Arsenal. His 101.75 fantasy points represented a massive disappointment for managers who invested an early pick in him. White managed 0 goals, 2 assists, and only 10 key passes throughout his limited campaign. Despite Arsenal’s strong defensive record when he played (5 clean sheets in 17 games), his lack of availability made him virtually unusable for fantasy managers.

Andrew Robertson – Liverpool – ADP: 45 – Positional Rank: 48 – Overall Rank: 157

Robertson’s decline continued this season as the Scottish left-back finished 157th overall despite being drafted around pick 45. While he managed 33 appearances with 29 starts, his attacking output completely dried up. Robertson finished with 0 goals, just 1 assist, and 40 key passes – a far cry from his prime years when he was a consistent source of assists. His 189 fantasy points represented poor value for a player drafted in the fourth round. Despite Liverpool’s improved defensive record with 10 clean sheets when he played, Robertson’s lack of attacking threat and aging legs made him a major disappointment for fantasy managers who expected his trademark attacking returns.

Honorable Mention:

William Saliba – Arsenal – ADP: 47 – Positional Rank: 28 – Overall Rank: 100

Bust Midfielders

Phil Foden – Manchester City – ADP: 6 – Positional Rank: 48 – Overall Rank: 125

Foden was the biggest midfield bust of the season, drafted 6th overall but finishing 125th with just 247.5 fantasy points. His season was hampered by injuries and rotation, managing only 28 appearances with 20 starts for Manchester City. Foden finished with 7 goals, 3 assists, and 43 key passes – nowhere near the production expected from such an early pick. His 16 shots on target highlighted his limited opportunities in Pep Guardiola’s system. For a player drafted in the first round, Foden’s inability to stay healthy and secure consistent minutes made him a massive disappointment for fantasy managers who built their teams around him.

Martin Odegaard – Arsenal – ADP: 9.0 – Positional Rank: 14 – Overall Rank: 75

Arsenal’s captain failed to live up to his lofty 9th overall draft position. He slid to 75th place with 276.5 fantasy points that left early investors feeling shortchanged. Odegaard’s 30 appearances and 26 starts yielded modest returns of 3 goals and 9 assists, along with 63 key passes and 17 shots on target. While his assist tally wasn’t terrible, the goal drought was particularly concerning for someone expected to drive Arsenal’s creativity and serve as a cornerstone fantasy asset.

Kevin De Bruyne – Manchester City – ADP: 9 – Positional Rank: 33 – Overall Rank: 79

Manchester City’s maestro turned into a fantasy headache despite producing decent numbers when available. He fall from 9th overall in drafts to 79th in final rankings. De Bruyne’s 295.25 fantasy points weren’t terrible in isolation, but managers who used a top-10 pick expected far more consistency from their premium selection. His final tally of 4 goals, 9 assists, and 57 key passes showed he could still create when healthy, but you expect even more from a top 10 pick.

Mohammed Kudus – West Ham – ADP: 20.8 – Positional Rank: 35 – Overall Rank: 86

Kudus was another second-round disappointment, drafted around pick 21 but finishing 86th with 243.25 points. Despite appearing in 32 games with 31 starts, his production was inconsistent for West Ham. Kudus managed 5 goals and 4 assists while creating a limited number of scoring opportunities. His inability to make a significant impact in the Premier League after his promising first season left fantasy managers disappointed.

Honorable Mentions:

James Ward-Prowse – West Ham United ADP 41 – Positional Rank: 96 – Overall Rank: 239

Rodri – Manchester City – ADP: 28.8 – Positional Rank: 181 – Overall Rank: 493

Bust Forwards

Dominic Solanke – Tottenham – ADP: 20 – Positional Rank: 32 – Overall Rank: 130

High hopes for Solanke’s big-money Tottenham move quickly turned sour as the striker plummeted from 20th in drafts all the way to 130th overall. Persistent injuries limited him to 27 appearances with 25 starts, yielding just 220.5 fantasy points – a disaster for managers who invested second-round capital in him. His stat line of 9 goals, 5 assists, and 14 key passes with 26 shots on target showed glimpses of ability, but nowhere near the production needed from such an early selection.

Darwin Nunez – Liverpool – ADP: 25 – Positional Rank: 45 – Overall Rank: 232

What looked like decent squad depth on paper translated to fantasy disaster in practice. Nunez nosedived from 25th in drafts to a shocking 232nd overall finish. The Uruguayan’s 119.5 fantasy points made him one of the worst values in any draft round. This was compounded by his role as a perpetual substitute despite 30 total appearances and only 8 starts. His meager output of 5 goals, 3 assists, and 11 key passes reflected both limited opportunities and poor finishing when chances arose. With just 13 shots on target across the entire season, Nunez never found his rhythm in Liverpool’s system, leaving managers who trusted him as a viable option deeply regretting their third-round selection.

Christopher Nkunku – Chelsea – ADP: 29.3 – Positional Rank: 44 – Overall Rank: 242

Chelsea’s marquee signing from RB Leipzig a few seasons ago has never been able to kick start in the Premier League, crashing from 29th in drafts to 242nd overall with abysmal 117.5 fantasy points. Although he appeared in 27 games, Nkunku managed just 9 starts in Chelsea’s crowded attacking rotation, severely limiting his fantasy ceiling. His final tally of 3 goals, 2 assists, and 14 key passes with 12 shots on target painted the picture of a player struggling to find his place in Chelsea’s squad. The combination of tactical adjustment issues, injury setbacks, and fierce competition for minutes turned what seemed like a shrewd late-round selection into another regrettable roster decision for fantasy managers seeking differential plays.
