MLB Injury Report
Ronald Acuna Jr. – OF Atlanta Braves

It would appear that Acuna’s availability for next week’s Home Run Derby is in jeopardy after yesterday’s back injury. The good news is that he is considered day-to-day, and today’s diagnosis will be telling. He went through treatment during the entire game, so if he’s still in significant pain, a trip to the Injured List may be warranted. It’s worth noting, too, that over his career, he does have a lot of instances where he needs a handful of days to recover from something without requiring a designation to the Injured List. The hope is that this is one more of those instances.
Jacob Wilson – SS The Athletics
X-rays were negative on Jacob Wilson’s left hand. He’s day to day and will be reevaluated Wednesday.
— Theo DeRosa (@Theo_DeRosa) July 9, 2025
Wilson was hit by a pitch and exited last night’s game early. The good news is that the X-rays came back negative, which all but eliminates the possibility of a fracture. The hope is that when he gets re-evaluated later on today, the swelling will have subsided to the point where the pain is almost gone, and they can continue to examine the injured area to ensure that there is nothing else wrong. Stay tuned.
Luis Gil – SP New York Yankees
Luis Gil threw 42 pitches in live BP today with Double-A Somerset. He could make his first Minor League rehab start there Sunday, which would likely be three innings and 50 pitches.
— Bryan Hoch ⚾️ (@BryanHoch) July 8, 2025
Gil will be brought back as a starter, which could mean that Marcus Stroman is out of the rotation, especially if the Yankees acquire pitching at the Trade Deadline. Regardless, Gil is being brought back to be used to start games. Great news.
Baltimore Orioles – Team Update
Adley Rutschman (oblique) took dry swings (no ball) today. Light intensity level. Orioles will see how he feels re: soreness as time progresses.
Tyler Wells and Kyle Bradish are throwing in Florida. Wells will throw live BP soon. Bradish is nearing a multi-up live BP
— Andy Kostka (@afkostka) July 8, 2025
Adley Rutschman has been slowly brought along, as his condition could lead to setbacks if too much is done too soon. While it’s good to see him taking dry swings, he still has a long way to go before returning, and his post-ASB return may extend into August if he feels any pain in the coming days. As for Tyler Wells and Kyle Bradish, a return to the mound for either of them may happen in September, for a “peace of mind” sort of appearance. However, fantasy owners would be wise not to count on either of anything significant in 2025.
Rhys Hoskins – 1B Milwaukee Brewers
Rhys Hoskins said the MRI revealed a UCL left thumb sprain. He will be in a splint and will miss approximately six weeks.
— Sophia Minnaert (@SophiaMinnaert) July 8, 2025
This is just awful news for the Brewers, as Hoskins will likely be out of action with a Grade 2 UCL left thumb strain. The good news is that they had recently traded for Andrew Vaughn, who can immediately be added in deep leagues as a replacement for those needing a first baseman or corner infielder.
Shane McClanahan – SP Tampa Bay Rays
Shane McClanahan pitched in his first live game action since the spring, a positive sign in his quest to return to the #Rays. My report, including thoughts from Kevin Cash and Kyle Snyder, on Mac’s FCL outing, and when/where he’ll take the mound next. pic.twitter.com/RKO9t1qqz3
— Ryan Bass (@Ry_Bass) July 8, 2025
Essentially, McClanahan threw all of his pitches, looked confident on the mound, and felt great before, during, and after this short outing. This was a solid first step in the right direction, and he will look to build on this when he takes the mound on Sunday.
Minnesota Twins – Team Update
Live batting practice for Zebby Matthews. Luke Keaschall hit a fly ball to right-center (not pictured). Kody Clemens popped out. #MNTwins pic.twitter.com/XMHgHW3n4w

Good news here for both Zebby Matthews and Luke Keaschall, who are in the live-batter stage of their recoveries. There is no word on when either of them will advance past this portion of their recovery, but both seem to be on the right path toward a return. Given that both have been absent for a while, chances are that an August return is in the cards.
Ivan Herrera – C St. Louis Cardinals
Iván Herrera says he feels able to do all baseball activity, was able to run the bases at full speed over the weekend. He says he’s heading to Memphis to start a rehab assignment on Thursday or Friday and he plans on being available to come off the IL out of the break.
— Jeff Jones (@jmjones) July 8, 2025
With the final phase of his recovery in place, Herrera appears poised to return in just over a week, provided he completes this rehab assignment without any issues.
Cole Ragans – SP Kansas City Royals
We have made the following roster moves: pic.twitter.com/FCVVJkvD8C

With the move here, Ragans is not eligible to return until the beginning of August.
