MLB Injury Report – Happy HBP Day Everyone!

Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Tuesday, July 29, 2025. In today’s report, we review the aftermath of a lot of players being hit by a pitch last night, including Salvador Perez, Eugenio Suarez, and George Springer. All of that and so much more in today’s MLB Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report

Eugenio Suarez – 3B Arizona Diamondbacks

Suarez was hit in the hand in last night’s game, and the worry was that he would miss significant time with a serious injury. It would appear that, for now, all of those worries can be laid to rest, as the X-rays that he had taken came back negative, meaning there is no fracture of any sort in his hand. That being said, there can still be some swelling and other remnants of this hit-by-pitch that could lead to some time missed, or even a trip to the Injured List in the coming days. A lot will depend on how he feels when he arrives at the ballpark later today. Stay tuned.

Houston Astros – Team Update

The Astros are one of the only teams to release these extensive injury updates, and for fantasy players, these can be quite helpful. There are quite a few listed here, and while it’s recommended that you peruse them all, there’s only so much room here to discuss what’s relevant. That being said, for fantasy purposes, Spencer Arrighetti could be back with the Astros after his next rehab start, so your time to stash him for cheap is running out. All of J.P. France, Luis Garcia, and Cristian Javier had successful weekend appearances, but will likely require close to the 30-day allotted window for a rehab assignment. Isaac Paredes is still seeking a second opinion, and given how accurate and efficient all diagnoses have been in the past, we should know more about him by Christmas. The good news is that Jeremy Pena could be back soon and that Yordan Alvarez swung the bat 50 times over the weekend (his hitting progression), so there could be a light at the end of the tunnel soon enough.

Max Muncy – 3B Los Angeles Dodgers

This is fantastic news for Muncy and the Dodgers, as he could be manning the hot corner sooner rather than later. A return within the next week could mean that they won’t need to look for his replacement at the Trade Deadline, though with this team, one never knows what they’ll do.

Tommy Edman – INF/OF Los Angeles Dodgers

As such, the Dodgers called up Alex Freeland to make his MLB debut soon. He has fantasy appeal and could contribute when given the chance.

Felix Bautista – RP Baltimore Orioles

It’s safe to say that Bautista may not pitch again until the beginning of September, and even then, we may not know the severity of the situation until we get closer to that day. He is set to have a follow-up MRI once the swelling subsides, and the team will know more about treatment once that happens.

Dylan Cease – SP San Diego Padres

Cease was hit in the head early in the game, and he must have won the discussion in question here with Cassavell, as he did stay in the game for a bit longer. Ultimately, he exited with just under five innings pitched, but likely due to performance issues and not health. It will be interesting to keep an eye on this situation in the coming days, as he is being rumored in many trades.

Cole Ragans – SP Kansas City Royals

Good news that Ragans has thrown up to 105 feet. He will seemingly increase that distance to about 120 feet before mapping out the bullpens and progression. All that being said, this injury has already taken away seven weeks of his season, and may take out at least another month. With the team almost out of the playoff run here, his health for 2026 should be a priority.

Kris Bubic – SP Kansas City Royals

An unfortunate end to an otherwise successful season. Fantasy players will want to remember the good and block out the bad when in drafts next season.

Salvador Perez – C Kansas City Royals

Perez was hit in the elbow by a pitch and was forced to leave the game early. Luckily for him and the Royals, it would appear that the worst has been avoided. Over the years, he has a track record of early exits that cause scares but wind up being day-to-day situations. The hope is that this is one of those times and that he can return to the lineup as soon as possible.

Detroit Tigers – Team Update

Awful end to the season for Reese Olson, who was seemingly pitching through this injury over the last little while. It would help to explain his erratic nature over his past four games, where he gave up 20 hits over 20 innings pitched. The good news is that he could be a candidate to return to the Tigers in the postseason, should they make it far enough and need him. As for Parker Meadows, he left Sunday’s game early, and the result of that exit is that he will miss at least the next ten days.

George Springer – OF Toronto Blue Jays

Springer took a pitch off the helmet last night, but the good news is that it ricocheted off his shoulder before making contact with his head. As a result, it didn’t connect with him as hard as it would have with a direct hit. We’ll know more later today, but for now, consider him day-to-day. However, there is a chance that he requires time on the Concussion Injured List as well.

Daulton Varsho – OF Toronto Blue Jays

It looks like Varsho’s extended time away will be coming to an end this weekend. Fingers crossed that there are no setbacks here.

Tampa Bay Rays – Team Update

This was the first time that Shane McClanahan did any sort of throwing since his setback over a week ago. The fact that he didn’t feel great after one week and threw just ten pitches is somewhat concerning. It’s unclear if the team will scale back even further, and with them possibly selling at the Trade Deadline, they may take things extra slowly. As for Brandon Lowe, being able to run is a major step forward, and it would appear that he’s ready to return very soon.

William Contreras – C Milwaukee Brewers

This was a shocking statement, though, as mentioned by Curt, the team had said this before, so perhaps it’s not news to anyone but me. We know that Contreras has been dealing with an issue in his hand, specifically his finger, for quite some time. It has likely hindered his abilities this season from producing at a high rate. Just the fact that season-ending surgery had been discussed was eye-opening.
