Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Wednesday, September 17, 2025. In today’s report, Bo Bichette could be back for the Major League playoffs, while Yordan Alvarez could, in fact, miss them. MLB Injury Report
Bo Bichette – SS Toronto Blue Jays
Source: 2nd opinion on Bo Bichette’s left knee sprain has confirmed that the injury is (a) short-term and (b) expected to improve with rest and rehabilitation.
It’s still possible that Bichette returns in time for the postseason; he last played on Sept. 6.@MLBNetwork

This is great news for the Blue Jays, as they will hopefully get Bichette back for a potential playoff run. The injury isn’t significant enough to warrant extended time away or even surgery, which means that, in a scarce instance, a second opinion didn’t mean the worst-case scenario. As for fantasy players, they will have to look elsewhere down the stretch.
Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros
Yordan Alvarez remains on the Astros’ active roster. Asked whether he would go on the IL, Espada said: “did you just hear what I said? This is going to take some time. Listen, one day at a time. I’m not going to give you days, weeks, what we’re going to do next.” https://t.co/reEVia5qHT

Alvarez ran through the third-base coach’s signal on Monday, and in doing so, he rolled his ankle to the point where he now must work through a significant left ankle sprain. Now, with the results of his MRI still in question, it remains to be seen how long he will be away from the Astros. With the playoffs right around the corner, Houston’s focus will be on ensuring that he is healthy enough for the postseason. As such, it’s unlikely that we see him back in the lineup anytime soon.
Milwaukee Brewers – Team Update

Massive Brewers update here with some important ramifications. From a fantasy perspective, DL Hall could return within a week if all goes well, though the team would be wise not to rush things for such an important piece of their bullpen. As for Logan Henderson, he will not pitch again this regular season, though there is a slight chance he can make an appearance in the playoffs. That said, a lot will have to go well for that to happen. Finally, Trevor Megill continues to regress after a speedy comeback attempt, and his reevaluation will determine the next steps. As mentioned in these reports earlier, he seemed to be rushing things (from this outsider’s perspective), and his attempt to return within fifteen days seemed quite advantageous.
Boston Red Sox – Team Update
Wilyer Abreu is still day to day, feeling a bit sore but making progress. None of the pitchers on the IL are making any kind of mound progression.
— Mac Cerullo (@MacCerullo) September 16, 2025
Not the biggest news update regarding the Boston Red Sox, but notable nonetheless. Regarding Wilyer Abreu, he is likely to be activated this week, but it remains a mystery as to when, given renewed soreness that continues to reappear. As for their pitchers making no progressions, this includes the following: Liam Henriks, Dustin May, Jordan Hicks, and Richard Fitts, all of whom are unlikely to return anytime soon and could be gone for the season. We’re at the point of the fantasy season where hanging onto hope for the immediate future could hinder your chances of success right now.
Zach Neto – SS Los Angeles Angels
Zach Neto (hand) is expected to be held out the rest of the season, Ray Montgomery said. But Nolan Schanuel is starting a rehab assignment tomorrow with Triple-A Salt Lake.
— Rhett Bollinger (@RhettBollinger) September 16, 2025
This will all but end Neto’s season, albeit in a disappointing way, as he was unable to stay healthy down the stretch. He remains one of the best overall fantasy players in the game, given his four-category potential.
Willson Contreras – 1B St. Louis Cardinals
#STLCards 1B Willson Contreras has been diagnosed with a mild right bicep strain, manager Oliver Marmol said. Contreras will be held out tonight and Wednesday and Thursday’s off day. If it’s not improved by Friday, he could be headed to the 10-day IL.

From the sounds of it, Contreras will miss the rest of the season.
Seiya Suzuki – OF Chicago Cubs

This was great to see yesterday, as it was the most Suzuki had accomplished since becoming sick late last week. He has been out of the lineup since Monday, and while there are no imminent plans to have him return, this was still a step in the right direction.
Trea Turner – SS Philadelphia Phillies

After clinching the National League East title, the only hurdle left for the Phillies is for their injured players to get healthy. Trea Turner remains their biggest ailing star, and from the sounds of it, he could be back next week. Fantasy players should continue to look elsewhere for production in the meantime.
