We’re 110 days from Opening Day, and with the Baseball Winter Meetings kicking off this Monday, December 8, the next name in my 2026 Dynasty Baseball Prospects: Daily Write-Up series shifts to Chicago, where the Cubs have quietly developed one of the more intriguing young arms in their system. Coming in at #127 is Jaxon Wiggins, a power right-hander whose athletic delivery, lively fastball, and improving command finally began to take shape in 2025. Even with the expected inconsistencies that come with refinement, Wiggins showed the kind of raw stuff and trend-line that can push him firmly into the rotation conversation, and up dynasty baseball rankings, in a hurry.

Daily Baseball Write-Up Series #127 Jaxon Wiggins
The Cubs weren’t exactly a pitching factory for years, but Cade Horton and Justin Steele have started rewriting that story, and now Jaxon Wiggins is throwing is name into that conversation with authority. After the long road back from surgery and a guarded workload last year, 2025 was the first real look at what the former Arkansas righty can do across a full slate. He answered by slicing through three levels and looking every bit the power starter Chicago thought they drafted.
Wiggins checks the boxes you want to see from a modern starter: a fastball that plays at the letters, a biting slider that misses bats, and a developing third pitch that keeps lefties honest. The results backed up the look. Across 78 innings, he ran a 2.19 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with 97 strikeouts, good for an 11.19 K/9. The swing-and-miss is real; his 16.2% swinging-strike rate is the kind of number that travels from A-ball to the big leagues. Pair that with a 2.94 FIP and 3.29 xFIP, and you get exactly what it felt like watching him this summer: legit stuff driving the bus, not smoke and mirrors.

There’s some polish left to add, and it mostly lives in the strike-throwing bucket. A 4.15 BB/9 is a reminder that the command can run hot and cold, and that’s the difference between a mid-rotation innings-eater and a bullpen detour. When he wins counts, hitters don’t square him up. He allowed just 0.46 HR/9 with a batted-ball mix that was pretty balanced (40.7% groundballs, 41.3% flyballs). That combination usually plays, but the modest gap between his FIP and xFIP hints at a bit of home run regression if the walk rate doesn’t tighten. Even so, a K/BB around 3.0 and whiffs at this clip are the profile markers of a starter with staying power.
Chicago’s development group has leaned into what each arm does best, and Wiggins fits their lane: attack with the heater, land the breaker for strikes, finish with chase. He doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel, just nudge the zone rate up a hair and continue trusting the changeup to get through lineups three times. Do that, and the current rank around 127 starts climbing fast, with an ETA of 2026 looking more like a realistic runway than a wish.
Fantasy Outlook
Arrow way up for Dynasty formats. Wiggins brings impact strikeout juice without glaring ERA risk, and while the walks will add some WHIP volatility in 5×5, the whiff rate gives him a sizable margin for error. Think mid-rotation ceiling with strikeout punch, and a perfectly viable high-floor fallback as a multi-inning reliever if the command stalls, both outcomes are valuable, but the starter track is very much intact. In Roto, he profiles as a K category helper who won’t sink your ratios; in Points, the strikeouts play, but keep in mind that free passes can trim his weekly ceiling until the command levels out. With 2026 as the realistic debut timeline, he’s a strong stash in deeper Dynasty and a name to circle early in 2026 redraft watch lists.
