We’re 52 days from Opening Day, and today’s entry in the 2026 Dynasty Baseball Prospects: Daily Write-Up series features a near-ready infielder knocking on the door. Ranked #83 is Tommy Troy, a polished shortstop whose offensive skill set and versatility have carried him to Triple-A. Troy’s value comes from his bat-to-ball ability, athleticism, and path to at-bats rather than elite raw power. In dynasty formats, that blend makes him a steady contributor with a realistic chance to help sooner than later.
Daily Baseball Write-Up Series #83 Tommy Troy
Arizona keeps padding their stable of athletic prospects who can play all over the dirt, and Tommy Troy fits that mold to a tee. After a full run at Triple-A, he’s done what the D-backs tend to value: control the zone, spray the ball with authority, and pressure defenses on the bases. He doesn’t need loud, one-swing outcomes to impact a game, and that shows up every night.
Troy’s 2025 line tells the story of a mature approach and a translatable hit tool. He posted a .289/.382/.833 OPS with a 115 wRC+, backed by a sub-10% swinging-strike rate (9.9%). He drew 67 walks against 98 strikeouts over 581 plate appearances, which is exactly the kind of swing-decision foundation that travels. Reno and the PCL can inflate offense, so I’m careful not to over-index on the raw slash line, but the underlying shape supports what we’re seeing. He manages at-bats, seldom chases himself into bad counts, and turns pitcher’s pitches into line-drive contact rather than empty whiffs.

The batted-ball mix is very “hit-first with sneaky juice.” A .162 ISO with 15 home runs pairs with a 25.3% line-drive rate and an opposite-field lean (34.1% oppo, 42.6% pull). That’s a gap-to-gap profile more than a pull-heavy liftathon, and it explains the sturdy average with moderate game power. There’s a little untapped juice here if he nudges the ball in the air more (29.8% fly balls) and lets it go to the pull side a tick more often, but the ground-ball rate (44.9%) is the clearest limiter on over-the-fence totals right now. Even without a loft bump, he impacts the game with his legs, 24 steals, and his feel for contact. You’re looking at a player who wins at the margins: first-step quickness, situational aggression, and a plan in the box.
Defensively, the versatility is real. He’s athletic enough to move among second, third, and short in a pinch, which only helps his path in a crowded infield. That flexibility matters for Arizona, who can slot him wherever the opportunity opens and let the OBP/ball-in-play skillset lengthen the lineup. Age-to-level is right where you want it for a recent first-rounder, and the swing looks built for small adjustments rather than an overhaul. The one “buyer beware” is simply calibrating expectations for power given the PCL context and current batted-ball distribution. If you’re drafting him to be a 25–30 homer anchor, you’re likely to be a touch disappointed. If you want a high-floor bat who can hit, run a bit, and get on base, Troy checks a lot of boxes.
Fantasy Outlook
In Dynasty, I view Troy as a high-floor middle-infield piece who can chip in across the board: potential for double-digit homers, 15–20 steals, and an OBP that plays right away. The plate skills give him an extra bump in OBP and Points formats, where his walks and low whiff profile should translate to steady week-to-week value. In standard Roto, he profiles as a strong MI with room to grow into a top-15 option at 2B/SS if he lifts the ball more without sacrificing contact. Context flags to note: PCL inflation and a ground-ball tilt that could cap home run output early. Timeline-wise, he’s close; Arizona’s roster math will drive the exact date, but he looks like a candidate to surface as soon as opportunity knocks, with the floor of a steady everyday regular and the upside of a glue-guy accumulator who plays up in OBP/Points.
Tommy Troy (UTIL)
Crazy good speedster who can play just about any position. CF was a quality spot for him, one that may end up resulting in a chance at the Opening Day roster!pic.twitter.com/QtBYdqVBYz
