It’s week 9 on the EPL waiver wire, and there are no longer any undefeated teams in the EPL, as Manchester City fell to Aston Villa last weekend.
Last week’s suggestion, Lewis Dunk and Brighton, came back to earth in their 2-0 defeat at Liverpool, and it doesn’t get easier as they head to Manchester City for another test. It is back-to-back shutouts for Antonio Silva and Bournemouth as they dominated a lacklustre Manchester United. Sander Berge didn’t start due to illness, but still scored six points as a sub. Brandon Thomas-Asante managed just four points, but he took three shots with one on target, making him a viable option as they host last-place Sunderland in week 9.

Week 9 Fantasy Draft EPL Waiver Wire
Week 9 suggestions (rostered 50% or less) are listed in order from most to least rostered.
Joao Gomes – Midfielder – 17% Rostered – Aston Villa vs Fulham
Villa hoped Gomes would add some quality to the midfield, but an opening day red card slowed his start. Since then, he’s had an assist and shown that he can play a part in the Villa lineup. Gomes is scoring points on both sides of the ball. He has four key passes and a collection of defensive stats. Villa have won three of the last four and will work to keep their positive football going.
David Affengruber – Defender – 16% Rostered – Aston Villa vs Fulham
The Fulham defender is averaging almost nine points over his five consecutive starts. He’s helped keep three clean sheets in the five games. He’s getting his points primarily from the defensive side of things. Even when Fulham have conceded, Affengruber is still gaining positive points. Both teams have won back-to-back games. Fulham defenders have shown some promise, so even without a great matchup, he may be a longer-term choice on the EPL waiver wire.
Xaver Schlager – Midfielder – 13% Rostered – Brentford vs Nottingham Forrest
Schlager is averaging over six points a game with over nine in his last two. He’s started in seven of the eight games, going 90 in six of those. He’s getting minutes, which means there are chances for points. He also has a least one shot in each game, though he has yet to score. Most of his points are coming from defensive stats, but along with the shots he has, he has notched six key passes, giving him an upside too. Forrest have struggled and have just a single win. They need points.Â
Jacob Murphy – Midfielder – 11% Rostered – Newcastle vs Everton
Murphy grabbed his first assist of the season in his third straight start. He had two shots in each of the previous two games too. Murphy had a stretch last season, at about this time of the year, where he was scoring good points. He’s attack-minded and puts in a good ball from the wing. Those are things to look for as options on the EPL waiver wire. Opponents Everton have given up two goals in each of their last three games, and Newcastle will want to build on their 2-0 win last weekend.
Check team news. Have fun. Good luck.
