We’re 83 days from Opening Day, and the 2026 Dynasty Baseball Prospects: Daily Write-Up series turns to a left-hander with some of the loudest pure stuff in this tier. Checking in at #106 is Alex Clemmey, whose fastball velocity and breaking ball give him real bat-missing upside. The profile comes with command questions and natural risk, but the ceiling is hard to ignore. For dynasty managers willing to live with volatility, Clemmey represents a high-octane arm whose outcome will be shaped by how quickly the strike-throwing comes along heading into 2026.

Daily Baseball Write-Up Series #106 Alex Clemmey
The Nationals did not baby Alex Clemmey in 2025. They pushed the 19-year-old left-hander aggressively through High-A and into Double-A, letting him learn on the job while facing older, more disciplined hitters. The results were encouraging in the ways that matter. Across 116.2 innings, Clemmey struck out 136 batters with a 3.47 ERA, finishing nearly two runs better than league average. The stuff showed up immediately, and while the command lagged behind, this is exactly the kind of developmental arc you want to see from a teenage arm.
The bat-missing ability jumps off the page. Clemmey posted a 10.49 K/9 backed by a strong 12.7% swinging-strike rate, holding opponents to a .206 batting average. He also did a solid job limiting damage when contact was made, allowing just 0.93 home runs per nine with a workable batted-ball mix that leaned slightly ground-ball heavy. The underlying traits match the numbers: a fastball that plays at the top of the zone and a breaking ball he trusts as a finisher. Even without granular pitch metrics, the whiffs and home-run suppression point to a real bat-missing foundation.

The swing factor remains command. Clemmey walked 5.63 hitters per nine innings and carried a 1.38 WHIP, allowing plenty of traffic despite the strikeout volume. His FIP (4.43) and xFIP (4.11) both ran hotter than the ERA, a reminder that free passes will eventually bite if they do not improve. Right now, he is winning with stuff and sequencing more than precision, which is acceptable at 19 but not sustainable long term. The encouraging sign is that his performance did not crater as he climbed levels. The strikeouts held, the run prevention stayed intact, and the arsenal did not look overmatched as the zone tightened.
Developmentally, the path forward is clear. Clemmey does not need to become a pinpoint command arm. He simply needs more strike-one consistency and fewer non-competitive misses that lead to extended at-bats and inflated pitch counts. The ingredients for a mid-rotation outcome are here: a fastball-breaker backbone that misses bats, a developing changeup to neutralize right-handed hitters, and age firmly on his side. If the command stalls, the fallback is a high-leverage relief role where the stuff could play up even further, but the starter track is still very much alive.
Fantasy Outlook
In dynasty formats, Clemmey is a classic patience play built on upside. He checks the big boxes: age-relative success, real swing-and-miss, and a clear path to strikeout production if the walk rate comes down even modestly. With an ETA around 2028, he is more stash than solution in shallow leagues, but in deeper dynasty and prospect formats, he is a strong buy if you can absorb volatility. In standard 5×5 roto, the strikeouts are attractive, but WHIP risk will remain until the BB/9 drops below five. Points leagues penalize walks more harshly, keeping him a tier lower there for now. If he trims even one walk per nine while sustaining the whiff and home-run profile, Clemmey has a real chance to push into the Top 100 and settle in as a strikeout-heavy SP3 with room for more.
